VGNI  Avian related....flew as soon as news caem out!1

2005-11-18 14:24:02
Viragen Reports Results from Preliminary Avian Flu Studies

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PLANTATION, Fla., Nov. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Viragen, Inc.
(Amex: VRA) and Viragen International, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: VGNI) today
announced that preliminary in vitro studies conducted by a U.S. research
organization have found Multiferon(R) (multi-subtype, human natural alpha
interferon) to show significant anti-viral activity against the highly
pathogenic H5N1 strain of avian influenza virus. These early-stage studies
found Multiferon(R) to be significantly more active against the virus than
recombinant alpha interferon, recombinant beta interferon or ribavirin.
Viragen officials believe these results suggest that Multiferon(R) may have
utility against this viral threat and is a prime candidate worthy of further
evaluation in additional avian influenza studies.
The studies were conducted by Birmingham, Ala.-based Southern Research
Institute, an independent, not-for-profit center for scientific research. In
the evaluations, Southern Research scientists exposed a standard cell line to
a range of concentrations of Multiferon(R), recombinant alpha interferon,
recombinant beta interferon and ribavirin, all of which were then separately
exposed to the H5N1 avian influenza virus. It was found that not only was
Multiferon(R) highly active against the virus, being able to protect the cells
against viral infection, but furthermore, it was found to be far more active
than the other three products tested. Multiferon(R) showed potent anti-viral
efficacy at low concentrations and was non-toxic to the cells.
While these studies represent only a preliminary evaluation, and success
in the in vivo or clinical stages cannot be guaranteed, the data suggests that
Multiferon(R) may have immuno-protective and anti-viral activity against this
particular strain of virus, and furthermore, may be more effective than other
anti-viral products, including recombinant alpha interferon.
The data obtained from these studies has been included to supplement
Viragen's patent application filed with the United Kingdom's Patent Office in
February 2004 covering the use of natural, multi-subtype alpha interferon for
human treatment and prevention of avian influenza virus.
About Multiferon(R):
Multiferon(R) is a highly purified, multi-subtype, natural human alpha
interferon. Marketed as "the natural choice,"(TM) it is approved for sale in
ten international markets (non-U.S.) for the first-line or rescue therapy of a
broad range of infectious diseases and cancers. Earlier this year, Viragen
filed an application in Sweden to seek expanded approval for Multiferon(R) to
include the first-line adjuvant treatment of high-risk malignant melanoma. A
decision is expected imminently.
About Viragen, Inc.:
With global operations in the U.S., Scotland and Sweden, Viragen is a
biotechnology company engaged in the research, development, manufacture and
commercialization of pharmaceutical proteins for the treatment of viral
diseases and cancers. Our product portfolio includes: Multiferon(R) (multi-

I've got a question and I feel kind of dumb for asking  ??? but can someone explain the different types of sells to me and how they work.
(Limit vs. stop vs. stop limit vs. trailing stop)

Thanks!

runforthedoor

OK...I'll give it a shot ;D

LIMIT...if your putting in a 'limit' price to buy...the price you enter means you will pay that price and not anything higher, but you would gladly pay less...and once in a blue moon you might get it for less.

if you are entering a 'limit' price to sell, the price you enter means you will take that price and not less, but will gladly take more. ;D And, once again, occaisionally you may get a higher price.

STOP....if you enter a 'stop' below the current price, and the PPS falls to the level that you entered, a sell order will kick out and sell the stock...at whatever price they can get. That's why 'stops' can be dangerous...if a stock price is falling fast, you may very well get well below the 'stop' price you entered. Of course, if the stock continues to fall another 100% and never recovers, one might not see it as dangerous at all. ;D

STOP LIMIT...like a stop, except they must give you the stop price you entered or not sell. So it takes away the danger of selling well below your stop price...but if the stock falls another 100% and does not recover...then the 'stop limt' becomes more dangerous than the stop. ;D

TRAILING STOP....this is a nice function to have...you set a 'stop' price a certain percentage below the current PPS, and if the stock price goes up and up and up, as you wish they all did,  ::) then the 'trailing stop' goes right up with the PPS, always keeping the same percentage gap that you originally set.

That's how I look at these confounding little gadgets. ;D If someone wishes to correct, add, or explain them better than I, please be my guest. ;D

I believe my current online broker allows only 'limit' orders with OTC and stocks under $2....in fact, I believe I am forced to enter 'limit' orders on these stocks, as opposed to 'market' orders....but I always voluntarily do it...force is not necessary. ;D ;D I hope that helps. ;)

Thank you very much for the info... that's exactly what I needed  ;D.

KET....BIGN....can you inform us about the news coming monday?  ;D There was some big buys and volume today...surprised it didn't go up a bit more.

Onestock...DIAAF held up very well to the close...it's your old friend? And what made it go up today, anyway? I saw a post elsewhere last night that alerted a group that the chart was favorable for a move good up...and when it started moving, a fire was lit and many jumped in.

Mess....SELA's chart does look good...did it finish well...FATS chart looks good too, and seems to be rising slow and steady with much room left to go also.

Julia...VGNI...I looked at it after you posted...there were some wild spreads on it at times. Do they have another cure for the phony bird flu nausea or what? How many cures do we need for a disease that doesn't really exist yet...other than in birds. ::) ;D I detect a bit of histeria here...and, as usual with humans, there's a $ trail behind every histeria  ::)  ;D

gmarc66

Hey RFTD...well, hysteria can be good for a stocks pps... good to take advantage of it if you can.  VGNI, yes did well on the n/r...immediate success...maintained the bulk of its gains on Friday...still closed up 250%.  VGNI may still be a good play....monday, however, who knows what could happen...could drop..could continue..not sure...but, i will defnitely be watching it.

Another one to watch is VRA(amex), I believe it is owned by VGNI, and I  have read on other boards that this is the pure play stock to watch in regards to this new attempt at an avian flu treatment by Viragen. ..which is still being tested. VRA closed  up 80%(0.65 cents)  on friday, but there was an after hours buy at .77 which actually brought it up 113%. (although stock charts shows a 54% increase on close, which is wrong) Both stocks pps were on the very low end before the news...so the pps could only go up...thats also why it was such a good play. Keep it on watch for next week.

RFTD: In regards to your comment:

How many cures do we need for a disease that doesn't really exist yet...other than in birds.   I detect a bit of histeria here...and, as usual with humans, there's a $ trail behind every histeria

I believe at this point u really can't have too many companies involved in finding a treatment  for the avian flu , and for now there still will be a frenzy everytime a company comes out with a n/r about a new avian treatment. We are still hearing in the news that people around the world are getting sick and dying...not alot, but it has the potential to spread. Flu season is also approaching, holidays are coming up, even more people travelling (higher potential to spread) and the strain continually evolves...so with all those factors involved...avian news will still remain a good stock play. Hysteria..yes...but, then no one wants to have the possibility of getting sick and or dying... they want a cure...and that is the only way to calm the hysteria...so the avian plays will continue IMO.

NNVC did very well..i kept hearing that the stock would eventually drop, so that is why i never got into it..meanwhile..its only been going higher...missed that boat :(

For short term plays...i believe they could still make u a buck.  VIGN..i quickly got in and out on friday and made a small profit...didn't want to hold it over the weekend, especially since it had such a huge rise in a matter of minutes.

good luck

julia

ASHD was the shell stock reverse merger announced on Nov 15. It had a nice run and has maintained its pps rise.

But, Friday after the bell, a news release of a reverse split effective this monday was sent out. New ticker will be ASHN.

Now..we all know what effect a r/s has on a stocks price...it usually drops...but, then...i noticed after the sell off...days later...the pps goes back up...sometimes very nicely. However, this r\s is not the typical 1:400 crap seen on many penny stocks, it is 1:1.249419586 ...so, not sure exactly how this will react to this minimal r/s conversion.

So...maybe we should keep it on watch...wait for the drop and see if it does go up after the sell off...i have seen several stocks (not all, so be careful) that have a nice percentage rise later on...could be because they are low-floaters.

Here is todays news on it:

2005-11-18 17:14:51
Ashlin Development Corporation Announces Reverse Stock Split 1 for 1.249419586 Split Ratio

BOCA RATON, Fla., Nov. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ashlin Development
Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: ASHD) announced that it will complete a
reverse stock split of its capital stock effective as of the open of trading
on Monday, November 21, 2005.

In the reverse split, each 1.249419586 shares of the company's issued and
outstanding common stock will automatically be combined into and become one
share of common stock. The company's authorized capital stock will also be
proportionally reduced in connection with the reverse split. Any of the
company's shareholders who, as a result of the reverse split, would hold a
fractional share of common stock will receive a whole share of common stock in
lieu of such fractional share. After giving effect to the reverse split, the
company will have approximately 3,768,000 shares outstanding on a fully
diluted basis. The reverse split will affect all shares of the company's
common stock, including those shares underlying stock options outstanding
immediately prior to the effective time of the reverse split.
The company anticipates that its common stock will begin trading on a
split-adjusted basis when trading opens on Monday, November 21, 2005, under
the ticker symbol "ASHN."

Julia...I don't deny the momo in the bird flu histeria, and momo is what we look for...just can't help but see what's behind the momo in many cases. Bird flu is nothing new...it's been around forever. As far as I know, so far, there ahs been but one case that may have been a human to human transfer, and that was in SE Asia where a person had contracted a very bad case from birds and eventually died...and the nurse that treated them every day contracted it also, but recovered completely. So it's really just birds to birds and birds to humans right now. And the people that are getting it from birds literally live w/them, eat duck blood soup all the time, etc....sure, such a strain can mutate and become infectious human to human anytime, but that's always the case...nothing new...but the news mania and hype...but that's what causes histeria and momo quite often...so ride it till it's over, I guess. ;D

The stocks you mentioned look potentially good...NNVC has certainly had a run...and some are expecting alot more...who knows...but I'll watch those you put up.

I saw the ASHD R/S...not much of a split there...I'm new at watching these shell R/S's also and am mostly watching them to see how they go over a short period....unless I can get in one early enough on that first day. ;D

gmarc66

Hey RFTD...yes, the worst danger possible is if the avian strain mutates and becomes contractable human to human...so trying to stop it before it gets out of control is what they are looking to do. Also, i didn't mention that if the avian does start to mutate and become increasingly dangerous to humans....economically many countries will suffer. I witnessed that here in Toronto, during the SARS scare. Toronto suffered greatly from that, travel and tourism slowed to a trickle...everyone lost alot of business...just this year we finally started to recover from SARS. There was alot of media hype which perpetuated the hystseria all over the world...but, in reality...it did not effect Torontonians daily lives...we lived basically without fear..it was extremely well controlled here, all measures were taken to prevent 'an outbreak'. Actually, SARS was basically confined to the hospitals...death toll in a huge population was minimal. Strict measures in regards to hospitals were taken...if you had any contact with a few of the hospitals in question near the time frame of the first SARS report..u were quarantined. Toronto went thru alot and suffered greatly from it. Even though, SARS was really only potentially dangerous to small children, older people, or people with low immunity...healthy people who contracted it would recover easily and it would have felt as if they only had a cold.

So, my point is, that the reason the US government is calling it an emergency is that it could devaste the economy if measures aren't taken to find a cure and to keep the avian flut from mutating and causing further hysteria as the media consistenly hypes it up and fuels the fear. It could prevent people from travelling....and that could hurt everyone.

ASHD...R/S is minimal...so, im curious to see what if anything happens. I did look over the charts of some of the shell stock companies to see how the pps faired after there  reverse merger announcements .  Some, of the companies pps continued to do well...and other plummeted later on....therefore,  as u mention, i also suggest a short term hold...better yet,  a daytrade...and yes...get in right when the  n/r is sent out and then sell sometime within the day to play it safe.

Good luck

julia

runforthedoor

Julia...I live in central Ohio and was working a contract job in hospitals in northern Ohio during the Toronto sars ordeal...so I remember it well. I've seen it with other health related issues in the recent past also. This bird flu is being overhyped though, considering it's current status....but that happens with all kinds of things these days..I'm not saying a human to human trnsmission won't happen, but they have most believing it is inevitable..and if you look into each overhyped subject, you can usually find a large number of people, usually including a number of politicians, who just happen to be well positioned to make a killing...hmmm  ::) ;D As I have stated before here...just one such case w/the bird flu is Donald Rumsfeld, who was on the board of Gilead, the tamiflu producer, before his present job...and now is the major shareholder of that company. I could list a number of examples of this sort of coincidence with a number of media hyped sectors/products/etc....it's the $ hungry world we live in. Yes the shell R/S stocks are usually good at least for one day as we have seen. Whether they continue or how far they go depends on who they are merging with and what their worth is. Figuring that out may take some DD....I don't like to spend too much time on that...but I'll try and keep my eyes open for others who do DD on them and see how it goes...but so far they are usually good for at least one good day. Anything you find out on these shell R/S's please post...they have some great potential, especially if we can catch them early. ;D
