Newest Study of Stool DNA Testing for Colon Cancer Accepted for Publication
Friday September 15, 9:00 am ET
88% Sensitivity and Simplified Marker Panel Mark Milestone in Non-Invasive Screening for Colon Cancer

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 2006--EXACT Sciences Corporation (NASDAQ:EXAS - News) announced today that the results of a prospective, multi-center study, as set forth in a manuscript entitled "Improved Fecal DNA (fDNA) Test for Colorectal Cancer (CRC) Screening", have been accepted for publication by a major gastroenterology journal. These data were previously reported at the May 2006 annual Digestive Disease Week (DDW) conference, the world's largest meeting of gastroenterology professionals.

Using a simplified panel of genetic markers, a buffer for DNA stabilization and an enhanced DNA capture technology, EXACT's second generation stool DNA technology demonstrated an 88% sensitivity for colorectal cancer in this blinded research study. This study also confirmed that the first generation stool DNA technology demonstrated a sensitivity of 73% with use of the DNA stabilization buffer.

"The acceptance of this study for publication further underscores the validity and importance of stool-DNA screening in the battle against colon cancer," commented Don Hardison, EXACT Sciences' President and CEO. "Every day 150 people in the U.S. die from colorectal cancer, despite the availability of conventional screening tests like colonoscopy and fecal occult blood testing. In our view, providing patients with additional clinically-supported, patient-friendly options like stool-DNA can only help in the important effort to reduce the unnecessary mortality associated with colorectal cancer."

About EXACT Sciences Corporation

EXACT Sciences Corporation uses applied genomics to develop effective, patient-friendly screening technologies for use in the detection of cancer. Certain of its technologies have been licensed to Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (LabCorp) for a stool-based DNA screening assay for colorectal cancer in the average-risk population. Colorectal cancer, which is the most deadly cancer among non-smokers, is generally curable if detected early. Despite the availability of colorectal cancer screening and diagnostic tests for more than 20 years, the rate of early detection of colorectal cancer remains low, and deaths from colorectal cancer remain high. EXACT Sciences believes its genomics-based technologies will help enable detection of colorectal cancer so that more people can be effectively treated. Founded in 1995, EXACT Sciences is based in Marlborough, Mass. PreGen-Plus(TM) has not been approved or cleared by the Food & Drug Administration.

Bouncing nice off the 200-day MA

Today's Candlestick Patterns:
White Closing Marubozu
Today a White Closing Marubozu was formed. This shows that the day opened and then prices went lower slightly, however it was followed by a rally that drove the prices over the opening price and the rally continued all day ending with a closing price equal to the high of the day.

Definition:
The White Closing Marubozu is a single candlestick pattern characterized by a long white body with no upper shadow. This is an extremely strong bullish candlestick pattern.

Important Factors:
What a White Closing Marubozu says about the future course of the prices depends a lot on the general picture just as in the case of White Marubozu. White Closing Marubozu can possibly be the first part of a bullish continuation pattern or it may also be interpreted as a bearish reversal candlestick pattern depending on the preceding day's candlesticks.

The White Closing Marubozu is a single candlestick pattern with low reliability. It only reflects one day's trading and it may show the continuation of the trend but it may also indicate reversal. It needs to be used with other candlesticks for a better and healthier judgment about the status of the trend.

I like this one a good bit.  If it can push through the 3.10 area, we could have another nice run (20-25% in a week) to start a long term 50%-100% move signalled by the move through the moving averages.  Thinking of shifting some money from SWIR over to EXAS unless another stock really catches my eye this weekend.

EXACT Sciences Announces First Quarter 2007 Results
Monday April 23, 4:00 pm ET

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--EXACT Sciences Corporation (NASDAQ: EXAS - News) announced today its financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2007.

For the quarter ended March 31, 2007, total revenues of $1.2 million were equal to the total revenues for the quarter ended March 31, 2006. These revenues primarily reflect the amortization of up-front license fee payments from Laboratory Corporation of America® Holdings (LabCorp®) and, to a lesser extent, royalties on LabCorp's sales of PreGen-Plus(TM) (LabCorp's colon cancer testing service) and sales of Effipure(TM) units to LabCorp. Net loss for the quarter ended March 31, 2007 decreased to $1.9 million, or $0.07 per share, compared to a net loss of $4.2 million, or $0.16 per share, for the same quarter last year.

The reduction in net loss for the quarter ended March 31, 2007 compared with the same period in the prior year was driven by a significant decrease in sales and marketing and applied research expenses, as well as charges of approximately $0.5 million to write off excess Effipure inventory in the quarter ended March 31, 2006. As a part of the Company's October 2006 restructuring to conserve cash, EXACT Sciences significantly reduced headcount, resulting in lower salary and benefit-related costs, stock-based compensation expenses and operating costs.

"These financial results are in line with our goal of strong fiscal discipline while we continue activities that prepare us in the event of a positive outcome for stool-based DNA technology in the revised colorectal cancer screening guidelines," said Don Hardison, EXACT Sciences' President and Chief Executive Officer. "We have been told that a guidelines decision from the U.S. Multi-Society Task Force, which includes the American Cancer Society (ACS), is expected late this spring. If our non-invasive screening technology secures this important endorsement, we will be poised to execute on a focused campaign to obtain reimbursement from payors, a major step toward commercial success. We intend to direct our efforts primarily toward the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to obtain reimbursement for Medicare beneficiaries as well as other large payors. Initial outreach will include payors that are located in states with mandates on reimbursement for tests recommended by medical organizations such as the ACS."

During the quarter, EXACT Sciences and Mount Sinai School of Medicine announced the publication of results from a prospective, multi-center study of Version 2 of the Company's stool DNA (sDNA) testing. The study, published in the January 2007 issue of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, reported a high sensitivity of 88 percent for detecting colorectal cancer (CRC). Optimization and validation of the Version 2 technology are ongoing. Encouraging results from two additional studies involving sDNA for CRC detection and screening for inflammatory bowl disease have been accepted as oral presentations at the upcoming annual Digestive Disease Weekly (DDW) conference being held May 19-24, 2007, in Washington, D.C.

For the quarter ended March 31, 2007, 542 PreGen-Plus tests were accessioned by LabCorp, compared to 1,211 and 613 for the quarters ended March 31, 2006 and December 31, 2006, respectively. As of March 31, 2007, the Company had approximately $18.6 million in unrestricted cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities.

Detecting an Opportunity in EXACT Sciences.......

On Monday, EXACT Sciences (Nasdaq: EXAS)
reported flat year-over-year quarterly revenue of $1.2 million and a net quarterly loss that decreased to $1.9 million ($0.07 per share), compared to a net loss of $4.2 million ($0.16 per share) for the same quarter last year. This revenue was primarily from amortization of up-front license fees from LabCorp (NYSE: LH), with the remainder coming from royalties on LabCorp's sales of colorectal cancer screening test PreGen-Plus and sales of Effipure units to LabCorp.

However -- aside from encouraging cost-cutting by EXACT, which gives the company adequate liquidity for about two years -- the real potential here lies in two upcoming catalysts within the next few months. The first catalyst will occur at the upcoming Digestive Disease Weekly conference being held from May 19-24, at which EXACT will present encouraging data from two clinical trials. These trials showed higher sensitivity (88%) for the company's latest version of its DNA-based colorectal screening test; they also showed positive results in the detection of inflammatory bowel disease.

The second, most important, catalyst for EXACT will occur in late spring, when an updated guidelines decision is expected from the U.S. Multi-Society Task Force, which includes the American Cancer Society. If EXACT receives an endorsement of its stool-based DNA technology in the revised colorectal cancer screening guidelines, it will mark a major milestone for the company, allowing it to increase sales of its test exponentially, since third-party payers use these guidelines for their reimbursement decisions.

The CEO of EXACT, Don Hardison, best summarizes the opportunity in the company's earnings release by saying the following: "If our non-invasive screening technology secures this important endorsement, we will be poised to execute on a focused campaign to obtain reimbursement from payers, a major step toward commercial success. We intend to direct our efforts primarily toward the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to obtain reimbursement for Medicare beneficiaries as well as other large payers."

Investors may soon share this enthusiasm for shares of EXACT -- which have languished in the past six years since their debut at more than $14 per share -- if the long-awaited and often-delayed update to colorectal screening guidelines finally includes the company's stool-based DNA technology.

EXACT Sciences Announces Third Quarter 2007 Results
Monday October 22, 4:01 pm ET

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--EXACT Sciences Corporation (NASDAQ: EXAS - News) announced today its financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2007.

Net loss for the quarter ended September 30, 2007 increased to $3.6 million, or $0.13 per share, from $3.1 million, or $0.12 per share, for the same quarter last year, primarily as a result of a decrease in non-cash license fee amortization. In June 2007, the Company amended its license agreement with Laboratory Corporation of America® Holdings (LabCorp®) to, among other things, extend the exclusive period of the license from August 2008 to December 31, 2010. As a result of this extension, the remaining unamortized up-front license fees that LabCorp previously paid to EXACT are now being recognized over a longer period of time, resulting in lower non-cash license fee amortization as compared to prior periods. The increase in net loss was also driven by restructuring charges of $0.6 million recorded during the third quarter of 2007 related to the elimination of the Company's sales and marketing functions. The increase in net loss was partially offset by decreases in sales and marketing expenses related to the elimination of those functions in the third quarter, as well as decreases in applied research expenses resulting from the cost reduction actions initiated by the Company during the fourth quarter of 2006.

Restructuring charges recorded during the quarter ended September 30, 2007 primarily relate to one-time termination benefits arising under retention and severance agreements. The Company is continuing to explore opportunities for further cost reductions, including its facility costs, and may record additional restructuring charges related to such reductions. As a result of the recent restructuring and the cost reduction plan initiated in the fourth quarter of 2006, research and development and sales and marketing expenses decreased to $1.0 million and $0.4 million, respectively, for the quarter ended September 30, 2007, down from $1.7 million and $1.1 million, respectively, for the same quarter of 2006.

Total revenues are comprised of three elements: non-cash license fee revenue related to the amortization of up-front license fee payments from LabCorp; product royalty fee revenue on LabCorp's sales of its colon cancer testing service, which is based on certain of EXACT's intellectual property; and product revenue related to sales of EffipureTM units. Total revenues decreased to $0.1 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2007 from $1.2 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2006, primarily as a result of a decrease of $0.8 million in non-cash license fee amortization revenue resulting from the June 2007 extension of the LabCorp exclusive period.

Product royalty fee revenue for the quarter ended September 30, 2007 decreased to $(0.2) million from $40,000 for the same quarter last year. Under the terms of the June 2007 amendment to the Company's license agreement with LabCorp, the Company is potentially obligated to reimburse LabCorp for certain third-party royalties. This obligation has an annualized cap of $1.0 million, $0.3 million of which has been recorded as a reduction in the product royalty fee line item in the Company's consolidated statements of operations during the quarter ended September 30, 2007. The Company's obligation to pay LabCorp under this provision of the amended license agreement is based on LabCorp's sales volumes of PreGen-Plus through the end of the exclusive license period, December 2010. A significant increase in PreGen-Plus test sales volumes during this period could reduce the Company's obligation to zero, while test volumes consistent with historical PreGen-Plus sales levels could result in aggregate payments to LabCorp of up to $3.5 million over the remaining exclusive license period. Unless and until sales of PreGen-Plus increase to a level that would reduce this obligation, the Company intends to record the maximum potential amount of the obligation ratably on a quarterly basis as a reduction in the product royalty fee line item in the Company's consolidated statements of operations.

"We are focused on the important key catalysts ahead and on the important regulatory initiatives before us," said Jeffrey R. Luber, President of EXACT Sciences Corporation. "We continue to look forward to a decision from the American Cancer Society and U.S. Multi-Society Task Force for Colorectal Cancer regarding the inclusion of DNA-based screening in the United States—where there is a significant opportunity to improve historically low screening rates. On the regulatory front, we are looking forward to presenting our detailed product filing strategy to the FDA during our meeting with them this month. This meeting provides EXACT with an opportunity to continue a dialogue with the FDA that can ultimately bring even greater strength to our business model and allow us to pursue even broader market opportunities ahead. We were also gratified to see this month that the international screening guidelines of the World Gastroenterological Association included DNA-based screening as a new test option for those people age 50 and older in high resource countries who do not wish to use other, more traditional tests. We believe that this serves as further endorsement of the benefits of our non-invasive technology and the need for new tests to reduce mortality rates worldwide."

For the quarter ended September 30, 2007, 406 PreGen-Plus tests were accessioned by LabCorp, compared to 476 and 803 for the quarters ended June 30, 2007 and September 30, 2006, respectively. As of September 30, 2007, the Company had approximately $14.8 million in unrestricted cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities.

Widened its third-quarter loss to $3.6 million, or 13 cents a share, from 12 cents a share last year. The Marlborough, Mass., company blames this on $600,000 in restructuring costs, as well as lower non-cash license fee amortization due to an extended exclusivity period in its license with Laboratory Corporation of America. Shares of the applied genomics company were back up 8.82% to $4.32 in light trading.
