Thursday , February 16, 2006 16:07 ET
NEW YORK, February 16, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Answers Corporation (NASDAQ: ANSW), creators of Answers.com(TM), today reported unaudited financial results for its fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 2005.

"In 2005, we launched Answers.com and successfully put it on the Internet map," said Bob Rosenschein, Answers' Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "We integrate a rich combination of high-quality, credible, and easily accessible reference content, which we constantly grow. Through the frequent appearance of our content in search engine results, our distribution partnerships, and Answers.com's usefulness and popularity with end-users of all ages, we continually build our traffic. Through our ad partnerships, we continue to translate that traffic into positive new revenue opportunities."

Q4 2005 Financial Results

- Answers reported revenues of $889,000 for the fourth quarter of 2005, an increase of 58% compared to the third quarter of 2005.
- Answers.com ad revenues, which accounted for the vast majority of the Company's revenues, were $807,000 for the fourth quarter of 2005, compared to $500,000 in the third quarter of 2005, or 61% sequential growth.
- GAAP operating loss in the fourth quarter of 2005 was $1,979,000, an increase of 61% compared to the third quarter of 2005. The increase was due primarily to the amortization of acquired technology and deferred compensation, and write-off of in-process research and development (IPR&D), resulting from the acquisition of Brainboost Technology, LLC, in December 2005.
- Non-GAAP operating loss in the fourth quarter of 2005 was $1,074,000, a decrease of 4% compared to the third quarter of 2005.
- GAAP net loss in the fourth quarter of 2005 was $1,816,000, an increase of 67% compared to the third quarter of 2005. GAAP net loss per share for the fourth quarter of 2005 was $.25 on 7.2 million basic and diluted shares outstanding, compared to $.15 for the third quarter of 2005, on 7.1 million basic and diluted shares outstanding.

Non-GAAP operating expenses, Non-GAAP operating loss, Non-GAAP net loss, and Non-GAAP loss per share are computed net of certain material items, as follows: (1) stock-based compensation (2) amortization of acquired technology and deferred compensation, and write-off of in-process research and development (IPR&D), resulting from the acquisition of Brainboost Technology, LLC. On December 1, 2005, the Company acquired Brainboost Technology, LLC, creators of the Brainboost Answer Engine, for $4 million in cash and 439,000 shares of restricted stock, including certain price protection rights. Further details regarding this transaction can be found in the Form 8-K filed with the SEC on December 7, 2005, Commission File No. 1-32255. Answers employed 48 employees as of December 31, 2005, up from 45 as of September 30, 2005 and 28 as of December 31, 2004.

Notwithstanding, as required under SEC rules, the Company's 2005 financial results will be compared to its 2004 financial results in its financial statements that will be included on Form 10-KSB, to be filed no later than March 31, 2006.

Launched in January 2005, Answers.com provides integrated, editorially-culled information on more than 1.5 million topics.

"That's a commitment to one-stop information about your topic on a single page, integrating information from diverse, attributed sources. In 2006, our newly acquired Brainboost technology will enable users to ask English-language questions, saving even more time and receiving smarter answers."

Since its launch, Answers.com has worked towards making the Internet a safer and more reliable destination for students, in particular. Answers.com Doubles Content Over Previous Six Months

Tuesday , February 28, 2006 08:47 ET

NEW YORK, February 28, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Answers Corporation (NASD: ANSW), creators of Answers.com, reported this week a substantial increase in the number of available topics over the previous six months, to more than three million. The growth was driven by the licensing of new brand-name titles and an expanded focus on the creation of original, topical content.

"This rapid increase to three million topics shows that we are expanding our collection of AnswerPages in order to provide our users with the trusted, reliable, and comprehensive information they are looking for," explained Jeff Cutler, Answers' chief revenue officer. "At the same time, we're continuing to add monetizable elements to our AnswerPages, such as advertising and price comparisons, in order to deliver this compelling, premium content for free. Overall usage has increased significantly over the previous six months, in part due to an increase from search engines that find our content valuable," Cutler said. "We have identified a key scalable technique for increasing traffic and revenues: As we add new content titles, we see traffic and revenues rise as more people find what they are looking for. We have an aggressive plan for 2006 to add quality content at a rapid pace. We're especially looking forward to offering authoritative, name-brand content not typically available on any other free site."

Among the new titles that were recently added are a leading legal encyclopedia, and the Gale Encyclopedia of Cancer, both licensed from Thomson Gale, as well as several other titles covering such diverse topics as word origins, gardening, geology, pop performers' biographies, and ornithology. Answers Corporation has also extended its long-term agreements with some of its key content partners, such as Houghton Mifflin Company - the source of more than a dozen titles integrated into Answers.com - and the Computer Language Company, publisher of the Computer Desktop Encyclopedia.

"We are pleased to both extend and expand our strategic partnership with Answers.com," stated David Langevin, vice president and director of electronic markets for Houghton Mifflin's Trade and Reference Division. "Answers' unique business model is a win for both our firms and Internet users everywhere, because users of Answers.com gain access to our authoritative, rich-content titles while we are able to extend our brand to new markets."

The most recently added content from brand-name sources includes the following titles:

- A leading legal encyclopedia, including legal biographies and definitions, published by Thomson Gale

- Gale Encyclopedia of Cancer, published by Thomson Gale

- Pop performers' biographies and album reviews from All Media Guide

- Peterson Field Guide(R) to Western Birds and Peterson Field Guide(R) to Rocks and Minerals, published by Houghton Mifflin

- Taylor's Dictionary for Gardeners, published by Houghton Mifflin

- The World in So Many Words, a dictionary of international word origins, published by Houghton Mifflin

- The Chronology of American Literature, a bank of biographies of American authors, published by Houghton Mifflin

- The Jargon File, a glossary of hacker slang

To supplement this syndicated content, the Answers.com editorial team has stepped up its effort to write original, unique content. In particular, the team has been producing Resource Centers, thought-provoking overviews of the histories and meanings behind popular (as well as unfamiliar) holidays and events, ranging from the Olympics to Kwanzaa to the Academy Awards.
