Melf,
I know what you're talking about....I also hate playing hide and seek.  Low volume stocks are harder/riskier to play, I usually buy limit AON at prior conservative known supports running the risk of not buying in at all but also limiting the risk and maximising the reward in case I get in.

Best of luck to you Melf.

Bocasva,

VERY wise of you.

I was watching trading in MDLK yesterday, a stock that trades only 8,000 a day!  I've owned it for a long time, and noticed that a couple of 100,000 share blocks traded at 5.18 at 12:36PM, and at 5.20 at 12:38PM, and that the stock printed a six-year high, at 5.40.

Hmmm-mmm...it looked like something was up.  That's HUGE volume for this stock.

Well, something else that was up, was that with the stock BID 5.05...ASK 5.20 (lousy spread) some poor guy got filled on 200 shares at 4.73, nowhere near the quote!!

That's awful.  On 200 shares, he "only" got taken for $64, but I view that nonsense as no different than getting mugged on the street.

Sheesh!  >:(

Anyway, I agree with you on passing on the trade, rather than getting yanked around like that.  And, speaking of getting yanked around...

ISV currently is BID 1.59...ASK 1.60.  They're not going to let me have it at 1.57.  :(  >:D

Good luck!  I'll be cheering for you if I see 1.65-1.67 get knocked out to the upside.  ;)

ISV is right there, champing at the bit for a breakout.  The high so far is 1.65. Volume is very low, only 15,000 shares in the first 25 minutes of trading, but if you get a print of 1.68, volume "should" come in.

ISV currently is BID 1.63...ASK 1.64

Good luck!

Bocasva and Setravis,

I just realized that the chart of ISV is very similar to that of Holygrale's AUY, and potentially as bullish.

First, AUY:

It had a Bullish Inverse H&S breakout (pattern in green) to 11.38, which ended up being a false breakout for the time being.

AUY then formed the Double Bullish Inverse H&S patterns (in green), and here's the key: that 11.38 high became the pivot (middle) of a BIG "W" bottom, which recently broke out.

Next, I'll show you ISV, and you'll see what I mean.

Melf Elf

The Ascending Triangle (pattern in blue) that had the false breakout in late August also could be seen as a Bullish Inverse H&S, depending upon how one wants to look at it, with those hits to the top of the Ascending triangle/neckline of an Inverse H&S at 1.80.

In either case it was a Bullish pattern, and a false breakout to 1.97 in late August, just like AUY had the false breakout to 11.38 in August.

If ISV can break out above 1.65-1.67 here, and rally to the 2.08 target that would be IN PLAY, picture what this chart will look like: 1.97 is the pivot (middle) of a BIG W-Bottom, just like  11.38 was the pivot in AUY, so that would be another bullish pattern breakout, above 1.97.

We'll see.  If ISV had more volume, I would have paid the 1.59 ASK last Friday.  They never filled me at my 1.57.

I'm still intrigued by the November 17 Bullish Inverse H&S breakout in the MACD.  If it's acting as a "lead indicator," correctly telegraphing an impending Inverse H&S breakout in ISV itself, it sure lead by a wide margin.  That breakout was nearly three weeks ago.

What's the delay here?  Get going, dang it!  :D

I'm cheering for you guys!  ;D

The print of 1.68 this morning is a breakout above the neckline, and a takeout of the prior high of 1.67.  Now it needs VOLUME, and upside follow-thru.

Volume is only 28.000 shares.

ISV currently is BID 1.67...ASK 1.68.

Good luck!

Thanks Melf....ISV is still flirting at the breakout point waiting for new players to come in and ask her up; we shall wait patiently as that could happen anytime now.

Bocasva,

ISV moved up a little, to 1.72, but no trades beween 11:07AM and 11:14AM (you have to look at this Time & Sales sheet to the left).

At 11:14AM, 9,000 shares were bought at the 1.72, and that seemed to bring in some buying interest.  ISV gapped up from 1.72 to 1.75 on another 9,300 shares, at 11:17AM.  Buyers are coming in, but again, you want to see more volume.

22 day average volume is 172,000 shares.

100 day average volume is 208,000 share, so you'd like to see at least 400,000 shares today, or better, for a breakout on two times daily volume.

So far, volume is 164,000 shares in the first 2½ hours of trading, so the run rate is on track for the 400,000 shares.

Looks good!  8)

bocasva

Now that's an ugly shadow that I didn't want to see on ISV today.
1.65 should provide support for the next leg up.  Volume was above average but not quite enough to move it violently to the upside.

Bocasva,

My sentiments exactly.  What the heck was thaa-at?   :P

Volume was almost double average daily, which was good, but the close really should have been 1.68 or better, above the high of the 1.67-1.65 neckline, to consider it decisively broken out of the Inverse H&S pattern.

Players selling an obvious pattern breakout like that, all the way back to a 1.65 close, certainly wasn't what you wanted to see at all.

This 1.65 area "should be" support, as you say.  The low of the Right Shoulder is 1.50, which definitely shouldn't get taken down.  Technically, if 1.49 gets printed, that's considered to be confirmation that it was a false breakout.

I'm still cheering for you, but I want to kick this stock's #$%#.  :D  >:D

Good luck!

For a minute there, when it was printing the low 1.60s again, they had me worried that it was another false pattern breakout, like late August.

Volume could have been a little better, but it still was above average.  Pretty candle, though, closing at the high of the day, well above the neckline, and well above the Kumo (Cloud).

Because the 1.67 - 1.65 neckline has a slight downward slope, the technical breakout was above 1.64, so that puts a target 2.06 IN PLAY (math is on the chart), as long as ISV trades above that neckline breakout.

If 2.06 gets MADE, that's a takeout of 1.97, the pivot of the BIG W-Bottom, which would put a target of 2.70 IN PLAY.

Math:

1.97 - Pivot High

1.24 - (The more conservative of the 1.24 and 1.20 Double Bottom)

1.97 - 1.24 = 0.73 Points + 1.97 = Target: 2.70

Interestingly, the May 26, 2006 high was 2.70 exactly, so ISV would have the pattern strength and measured move off a breakout for a re-test.

Good luck!

2.70?? Wow, the little devil inside me started getting greedy when I read your post. >:D
If volume starts incrementing over the next sessions 2.70 is very realistic.  My original target had been 1.96 but I just have to let the chart do the talking.
