Some are tying what Bill Gates said Today to AVNX:

Internet to revolutionize TV in 5 years: Gates By Ben Hirschler
Sat Jan 27, 5:02 PM ET

The Internet is set to revolutionize television within five years, due to an explosion of online video content and the merging of PCs and TV sets, Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) chairman Bill Gates said on Saturday.

"I'm stunned how people aren't seeing that with TV, in five years from now, people will laugh at what we've had," he told business leaders and politicians at the World Economic Forum.

The rise of high-speed Internet and the popularity of video sites like Google Inc.'s (Nasdaq:GOOG - news) YouTube has already led to a worldwide decline in the number hours spent by young people in front of a TV set.

In the years ahead, more and more viewers will hanker after the flexibility offered by online video and abandon conventional broadcast television, with its fixed program slots and advertisements that interrupt shows, Gates said.

"Certain things like elections or the Olympics really point out how TV is terrible. You have to wait for the guy to talk about the thing you care about or you miss the event and want to go back and see it," he said.

"Internet presentation of these things is vastly superior."

At the moment, watching video clips on a computer is a separate experience from watching sitcoms or documentaries on television.

But convergence is coming, posing new challenges for TV companies and advertisers.

"Because TV is moving into being delivered over the Internet -- and some of the big phone companies are building up the infrastructure for that -- you're going to have that experience all together," Gates said.

YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley said the impact on advertising would be profound, with the future promising far more targeted ads tailored to each viewer's profile.

"In the coming months we're going to do experiments to see how people interact with these ads to build an effective model that works for advertisers and works for users," he said.

Advertisers are already racing to adapt their strategies to the growing power of the Web, and more and more promotional cash is tipped to migrate from television to Web sites in future.

You really shouldn't make bonehead statements like this...it makes you look like an idiot...especially if someone were to do a search on all your other worthless pumps

agreed.  Back up a statement with a chart!!!  Personally, I also think AVNX is due for a rebound from here, and if the general market makes a little rebound we should see AVNX follow suit.  Historically, the 1.70-1.75 level looks to be pretty solid support, and I think the last two candles hint at a reversal.  AVNX has a history of sharp price rises followed by flag-like retraces - my feeling is that we just hit the base of this retrace.  MACD doesn't look great but the RSI is looking like it wants to make a little bounce from these oversold levels.

I bought back in this morning at 1.81.  For now I will keep a stop just below 1.70 and see what we get here.

ScottishTrader

OK, not a great close on the week for AVNX, but I still think this looks like a low risk opportunity as it pulls back to 1.70 support.  Provided the markets as a whole don't pull everything down, I think we should see a rebound from these levels in the coming weeks.  Maintaining my stop just below 1.70 and looking for a move to the top of this channel that comes in at 2.10.

Avanex to Demonstrate Breakthrough Thermal Management Technology in New Amplifier Platforms at OFC/NFOEC
Avanex Corporation (Nasdaq:AVNX), a pioneer of intelligent photonic solutions that enable next-generation optical networks, today announced that it will demonstrate optical amplifiers with its breakthrough Digital Control System (DCS) thermal management technology at the Optical Fiber Communications Conference and Exhibition (OFC/NFOEC) held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif. between March 26–29.

Avanex's proprietary DCS significantly improves the overall efficiency of the entire amplification system. Depending on the amplifier output power, the control system reduces or eliminates the need for heat sinking and forced air-cooling in controlled amplifiers. Prior to the commercialization of this technology, pumps were operated with simple analog control systems, requiring more energy and generating increased heat dissipation.

The improvement in thermal dissipation allows customers to achieve higher system density and lower operating costs associated with thermal management and maintenance without a decrease in performance.

Avanex's new Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) platforms, the PureGain(TM) 1600, 1700 and 2800, utilize DCS technology and are the industry's first digitally controlled EDFAs available that use dynamic thermal management and patented digital pump control.

A live demonstration of Avanex's new PG1600, PG1700 and PG2800 amplifier product platforms using DCS thermal management technology will be on display in booth 2141 at OFC/NFOEC held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif. between March 26-29.

Avanex Introduces Tunable Platform for In-Line Dispersion Compensation Management
Thursday March 22, 4:05 pm ET

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Avanex Corporation (Nasdaq:AVNX - News) a pioneer of intelligent photonic solutions that enable next-generation optical networks, today introduced its in-line Tunable Dispersion Compensator (TDC) platform.
Source: Avanex Corporation

The PowerShaper(TM) 3200 platform is the industry's only broadband TDC solution compatible with both 10Gb/s and 40Gb/s transmission speeds. This product platform provides remotely tunable dispersion and 100 percent slope compensation for all C-band channels simultaneously with signal pass-band fidelity.

The emergence of reconfigurable networks and the migration to 10Gb/s and 40Gb/s transmission speeds requires signal fidelity to be maintained over a broad range of system configurations. Additionally, as bandwidth usage increases, remote network reconfiguration is increasingly critical and is needed to lower installation and maintenance costs. Tunable dispersion compensation management is critical to maintain signal fidelity and minimize transmission penalty.

The PowerShaper platform is a compact and simple to use module that can be seamlessly integrated into the mid-stage of an Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) or DWDM demultiplexer. This both enables flexibility required by next-generation networks and reduces the overall cost of dispersion compensation management throughout the network.

The intelligent digital control system employed in the Avanex TDC platform overcomes complex control, stability and fidelity challenges to achieve an unprecedented less than 5ps of peak to peak Group Delay Ripple. The module can be tuned remotely or by an integrated closed loop control system to optimize and maintain network performance without network operator intervention. The module can also be used in "set and forget" mode as a substitute for fixed dispersion compensators.

The PowerShaper is compact by design (100x130x15mm) and employs proprietary etalon technology to achieve dynamic dispersion compensation over +/- 800ps/nm (less than 6dB loss) or +/- 1200ps/nm (less than 8dB loss) with a dispersion pass-band of 40GHz, or up to +/- 1400ps/nm over a 35GHz dispersion pass-band at 100GHz channel spacing, and precise control of dispersion to less than 20ps/nm.

PowerShaper 3200 product platform will be presented at Avanex booth 2141 at the Optical Fiber Conference and Exhibition (OFC/NFOEC) held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif. between March 26-29.
