Ivanhoe Energy Successfully Demonstrates Final Key Commercial Configuration of Heavy Oil Upgrading Technology
Wednesday June 6, 8:00 am ET
High Quality "Recycle" Configuration Applicable to Bitumen from Athabasca Oilsands

BAKERSFIELD, CA, June 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Ivanhoe Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: IVAN and TSX: IE) President and CEO Joe Gasca and Chief Technology Officer Dr. Robert Graham today announced the successful demonstration of the third and final processing configuration to be tested at the company's heavy oil upgrading (HTL(TM)) Commercial Demonstration Facility (CDF) in California. Completion of the successful test positions Ivanhoe Energy to proceed with the design and construction of full-scale, commercial HTL facilities.

The latest demonstration used a "Recycle" configuration, which is one of the operating modes that can be used to produce a "High Quality" upgraded product. High Quality modes typically would be applicable to bitumen production, wherein higher levels of upgrading and viscosity reduction, as well as significant by-product energy, are required. Bitumen production in the Athabasca oilsands in Western Canada is expected to be the most significant market for this mode of HTL operation.

This is the third processing configuration to be successfully demonstrated at the CDF. Ivanhoe Energy has previously announced successful demonstrations of a High Yield mode, where liquid yields are maximized, as well as a "Once Through" High Quality configuration that, similar to the Recycle High Quality configuration, emphasizes product quality and on-site energy production. The three configurations may be used independently, or in various combinations, to match processing modes to feedstock characteristics and production goals.

The most recent run used California vacuum tower bottoms (VTBs), which have an API gravity of 5.6 degrees. California VTBs are heavier than Athabasca bitumen, which typically has an API gravity of approximately 8 degrees. The properties of the upgraded oil produced in the Recycle High Quality configuration will be released as appropriate along with additional test run data. The next test run, scheduled for this quarter, will process Athabasca bitumen that has been provided by a major international integrated oil company.

"This successful demonstration of the Recycle mode complements other HTL configurations previously demonstrated in our California CDF. Ivanhoe Energy now has the full suite of tools to progress to full-scale commercial facilities in a number of markets around the world, especially where fuller upgrading and higher levels of on-site energy is required. The Athabasca oilsands represents the primary market opportunity that requires the configuration announced today," Joe Gasca said.

Dr. Robert Graham added, "This successful demonstration of the Recycle configuration fulfills the primary technical objectives that Ivanhoe Energy established for the CDF. This latest configuration provides us with significant flexibility to tailor our process to specific business opportunities. Future CDF operations will be deal-driven and will focus on the testing of heavy crudes in support of project development in Western Canada and around the world."

Ivanhoe Energy's proprietary, patented HTL(TM) heavy oil upgrading technology produces lighter, more valuable crude oil from heavy oil and bitumen at lower costs and in smaller-sized plants than conventional technologies. The process also produces by-product energy that can be used to generate steam or electricity.

Hi Setravis,

You beat me posting IVAN being active in the premarket by a few seconds.
I have this and DNDN on my watchlist today. :)
Makes me wish I bought that at 1.73. Still hesitant to hold overnight.
Will be watching market direction today.
Happy trading.

Will it go past 2.28 today?
That is up to the market. ;)
Go in with upside momentum or wait for stock to tank and buy close to support.

Ares

Fibonacci numbers are all over the place.
It depends what points  the trader uses.

Here's a projection that uses 2.10 as high and 1.75 as low.

The 1.27 retracement is 1.655 which is closer to the previous daily significant swing low at 1.65.
Go in with upside momentum or wait for stock to tank and buy close to support.

Ares

Using the 52 week high and low, this is what I came up with:

1.74 is a 0.618 retracement.
Go in with upside momentum or wait for stock to tank and buy close to support.

Ares

#82
Recently touched the 1.62% retracement of the 15 minute opening range at 1.86.
Go in with upside momentum or wait for stock to tank and buy close to support.

Ares

#83
Currently, the 5 minute chart is showing price above the 8ma with a positive MACD near zero.
1 minute stochastics is still overbought.
I wonder where price will be when the 1 minute stochastics become oversold with time and sales printing a lot of green.

If the 1.86 support doesn't hold where would the next buy target be?

Assuming that the support and resistance level is a given, the next step would depend on the trader's emotion for the battle of fear and greed.

Here are potential Intraday support and resistance levels if the 1.86 support is broken.
Go in with upside momentum or wait for stock to tank and buy close to support.

IVAN: Reaches New 52 Week High on Higher Crude Prices
Tuesday , May 20, 2008 17:59ET

Tuesday's session saw oil reach another new high as the futures for June delivery hit $129.31. July crude was up to $128.78 while July Brent was up to $127.33. Causing some of the price spike was Boone Pickens prediction that oil will continue to rise, possibly to highs of $150 a barrel this year.

Pickens noted that the elevated oil prices were being driven by depletion in supplies around the world and not being driven by speculators as many have maintained. With expiration on Tuesday and the price hitting another high, his claims could very well be substantiated.

With Goldman's claim of $140 plus and Pickens' prognostication of $150 by the end of the year, the investor may be getting a bargain with oil at $129. With that type of price, many small cap oil names were again, coming into play. Ivanhoe Energy (IVAN) was one of those names.

The Company is an independent international heavy oil development and production company focused on pursuing long-term growth in its reserves and production using advanced technologies, including its proprietary heavy oil upgrading process (HTL(TM)).

Last week, the Company reported earnings of a loss of 3c per share versus a loss of 3c on revenue of $11.2 million in the first quarter against, $9.26 million in the comparable quarter.

The Company first made headlines in January of 2006 when they announced the development of technology to reduce the viscosity and, in turn, reduce the price of harvesting heavy crude from the ground. In a press release on January 17th, the company reported the achievement of performance goals in a commercial test of their "revolutionary" process of turning heavy crude to light crude.

To get an idea of the history, the company stated that the process wasn't in fact proprietary, but was an adaptation to existing technology that their acquired company, Ensyn Group, started studying back in the 80's and patented. The patents are now solely owned by IVAN.

Since mid February, shares have rallied from lows below $1.40 to highs of $2.50 on Tuesday before closing at $2.41, up over 6% on the day. With the price of oil continuing to rise, the payoff for refining the heavy crude to light will grow.

Ready to take a long term run...
The run that started in 2007 sputtered, this time it will not!
Looking over the past 5 yrs, this company had an incredible initial stock price rise as a whole bunch of buyers were pretty excited about the prospects of this company. Then after the long retreat, I think people just lost interest and now it really seems to me that Ivanhoe's business is getting a stronger foothold in the industry, and it truly seems that the original reasons for investor interest are starting to bear fruit.

Shares of Ivanhoe Energy have been in an uptrend ever since the stock tested its 200-day moving average for support in late April. Since then the stock has run up from the $1.80 level to more than $3 in the first few days of June.
A series of sharp selling days in early June, however, helped anticipate the stock's current pullback - as did the rash of low Short Term PowerRatings that accompanied the stock for most of the first week of June.
