ZAP (OTC BB: ZAAP) Reinvents the Wheel with Advanced Electric Wheel Motor Technology Partner

Wednesday May 2, 9:30 am ET
US Electric Car Maker Signs Exclusive Agreement with PML FlightLink Ltd. of the Hampshire, UK for New Electric Wheel Motor

SANTA ROSA, Calif., May 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- US electric car maker ZAP (OTC Bulletin Board: ZAAP - News) signed an exclusive agreement this week for an advanced wheel motor technology from PML FlightLink Limited of Hampshire, United Kingdom.

ZAP secured the PML wheel motor technology to play a key role in the development of next generation electric vehicles being developed with Lotus Engineering. Electric vehicle concepts like the ZAP-X crossover SUV have targeted unprecedented performance goals, including a top speed of 155 mph, 0 to 60 mph acceleration in 4.8 seconds, and a peak 644 horsepower. Steve Schneider, CEO for ZAP, says PML's wheel motor achieves the power to weight ratio to meet the performance goals of the ZAP-X.

"Wheel motors are revolutionizing electric transportation, from our ZAPPY3 electric scooters all the way up to more ambitious projects like the ZAP-X crossover," said Schneider. "We have witnessed the PML wheel motor technology in action and, without question, this the best drive system in the world. "

Schneider pointed out why wheel motors allow automotive designers to achieve greater efficiencies in the overall design, distributing the weight and displacement of the drive train to the four corners of the vehicle. PML's wheel motors don't require intricate braking systems, instead relying on advances in regenerative braking that enhance efficiency and performance.

ZAP has undertaken a feasibility study with Lotus Engineering to explore the development of next generation electric vehicles that incorporate the latest advances in technology. The two companies met last week at ZAP's headquarters in Santa Rosa for discussions with potential suppliers and distributors. In exchange for exclusive rights, ZAP has agreed to an initial order of approximately $10 million in PML wheel motors, subject to terms and conditions agreed on by both parties.

"We've sort of reinvented the wheel," said Chris Newman of PML FlightLink to Car and Driver Magazine. The small British electrical-engineering company led by Martin Boughtwood, PML's director, has produced a remarkable electric Mini to prove the technology. PML FlightLink Limited is a privately held UK corporation with more than 30 years experience in advanced wheel motor and control system development. According to PML, its compact, energy efficient, electric wheel motors produce unrivalled levels of torque with internal heavy-duty tapered roller bearings that can withstand heavy radial loads for robust use, important for the all-wheel drive capability of the ZAP-X.

PML's Hi-Pa Drive(TM) is a literal revolution in motor technology with an integrated motor and drive electronics in one unit producing an ultra high power density -- up to 20 times more than conventional systems. Hi-Pa Drive(TM) is ultra reliable -- 20 times more reliable than conventional systems. It provides high torque in a lightweight flat motor package, ideally suited to vehicle in wheel drives, where its impact on suspension dynamics is minimal. Other features include total weather proofing, total energy transfer, and several levels of redundancy so any single failure will never prevent the vehicle from operating safely. ZAP Advisory: Gas Prices Hit $4.50 for Premium Unleaded in San Francisco, California

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(MARKET WIRE)--May 2, 2007 -- When Steve Schneider, CEO for electric car pioneer ZAP (OTC BB:ZAAP.OB - News), saw gas advertised at $4.50 per gallon in San Francisco, California, he made a point of stopping to fill up so that he could say this is the most he has ever paid for gasoline in the US.
Source: ZAP

Schneider admits that he was feeling upbeat following his interview on CNBC's "Power Lunch" Tuesday morning talking about ZAP sales tripling in 2006. He kept the receipt as if no one at ZAP would believe him.

Gas prices across the country have risen 40 percent in the past three months with the national average rising from $2.15 to $3.00 per gallon, according to the US Energy Information Agency.

"You have to wonder if the era of $5 a gallon gasoline is not too far off," said Schneider. "The timing couldn't be better for ZAP's business plan." Gas prices in most parts of the world are much higher than in the US.

ZAP has warned of another factor that is having a profound affect on international oil supplies. ZAP Chairman and Co-Founder Gary Starr gave a presentation at the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Institute Conference in March about the Asia factor, that as many as 50,000 people in developing countries are moving from the country to the city every week.

"When you consider the impact a billion new users of internal combustion vehicles could have on oil prices and global warming, the need for electric vehicles has never been greater," said Starr. ZAP has mounted a campaign against global warming by educating consumers about electric vehicles and the planting of trees. Learn more at http://www.zaptrees.org.

Domino's Delivers Pizza in a ZAP
Tuesday May 8, 9:00 am ET
World's Largest Pizza Delivery Company Begins Test of All-Electric Delivery Vehicle

LAS VEGAS, May 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- As part of the company's Worldwide Rally in Las Vegas this week, Domino's Pizza tested delivering its pizzas using ZAP (OTC Bulletin Board: ZAAP - News) all-electric vehicles supplied to them by The Electric Vehicle Company. As the pizza delivery experts, the electric vehicle deliveries reinforce Domino's desire to bring cost-saving, environmentally friendly delivery options to its stores around the world.

On Sunday, Domino's made actual pizza deliveries around the Las Vegas area in the ZAP electric vehicles.

"Today it is not uncommon to have your Domino's pizza delivered by bicycle, scooter or car around the world," said Jim Stansik, Domino's executive vice president of Franchise Development. "Looking toward tomorrow, Domino's is committed to also being a responsible consumer of our planet's natural resources by testing the feasibility of using electric vehicles in our stores."

The Electric Vehicle Company (EVC) of Chicago is making its all-electric vehicles available to consumer product companies for use as an environmentally friendly and cost-efficient option for conducting deliveries, mobile advertising and event marketing programs.

Its ZAP (Zero Air Pollution) line of XEBRA cars, pickup trucks, ATVs and scooters are perfect for driving around cities and at special events -- even indoors -- with worrying about harming the environment. Their unique styling will definitely catch consumers' eyes and can be easily wrapped with signage.

"Mobile event marketing and advertising with an electric ZAP vehicle not only allows a company to send a message about its product in a unique and cost-effective way, but also delivers a message that the company cares about the environment," says EVC president Larry Spatz.

The ZAP XEBRA is the only federally declared, street-legal, 100 percent electric car that plugs into any 110-volt outlet -- the same outlet that is found in and outside every home, garage and office. The XEBRA is considered by ZAP as a 'city-car,' an all-electric design for city-speed driving up to 40 MPH. The XEBRA comes in a 4-door sedan or pickup truck with a convertible dump/flat bed. It plugs into a 110-volt outlet for a full charge in up to six hours and a 50 percent charge in up to 1.5 hours. Range varies up to 40 miles per charge depending on charging, speed, driving conditions and other factors. Fueling is estimated to cost 1-3 cents per mile while maintenance costs one-third that of gas due to the reduction of moving parts, less wear and replacements.

"Rising energy costs have become a major concern when budgeting for mobile advertising and event marketing programs," added Bob Kopach, EVC vice president of sales and marketing. "At $3 per gallon gas and higher, driving an all-electric ZAP XEBRA makes a lot of financial sense."

InvestSource Inc.: Zap Vehicles Eligible for Buyer Incentives from State of California
Friday , May 30, 2008 03:57ET

May 30, 2008 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Stocks in the News: ZAP (OTC BB: ZAAP), Countrywide Financial Corporation (NYSE: CFC), Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW), Gilead Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: GILD), Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (NYSE: BMY) and Kosan Biosciences Inc. (NASDAQ: KOSN)

May 29, 2008 -- The California Air Resources Board is offering a $1,000 rebate towards the purchase of a Xebra electric car and truck from ZAP (OTC BB: ZAAP) Both the Xebra electric city car and pickup have passed a full battery of testing and approval requirements by the California Air Resources Board and have been officially approved for the $1,000 cash rebates. To receive a rebate, vehicles must be ARB qualified and pass a range and speed course as well as comply with all federal motor vehicle safety standards, and meet a minimum manufacturer warranty. "This program alone is enough incentive to stimulate Xebra sales to a whole new level," said ZAP CEO Steve Schneider. "Similar programs in electric car programs in Oregon have helped contribute to the sale of more Xebras. Being the 8th largest economy in the world, this program will be well received by our dealers and Californians." ZAP says right now many drivers are filling up their gas tank for about $60 dollars, but a Xebra can recharge for as little as 60 cents. Schneider noted that the rebate should cover over 30,000 miles of driving assuming electricity costs of three cents per mile. That could mean several years of not having to pay for fuel. Schneider says that ZAP has delivered over 700 units of the Xebra as of April. Surging gas prices have sparked an increase in orders from consumers and dealers. ZAP reported a backlog of $6.8 million in Xebra orders, more than sales for all of 2007.
