I've been following Ener, and it was a bargain at 40.00 (accumlation stage?)

But fo some reason, I want to buy shoddy, underperforming pennies rather than solid companies :)  I'm in ECA.TO and SFG.UN so I am correcting my portfolio

I will buy ENER, I don't really care if it's 44 now, I can rationalize 40 as 'support' :)

NICE PICK!
jp

EDIT: I won't be buying straight away, the chart is showing a sell off from today's screamer and slight neg. news.  I think there will be a pullback!

RichL74

Slight pull back today. Good time to get in the game. This could be one of a few down days in the past 30 days.

ENER has pulled back a bit...enough for me to get back in!  ;)

Today's news:

ECD Ovonics Subsidiary Ovonic Battery Company Awarded Contract for Biofuel Reformation by Xcel Energy

October 12, 2005 12:15:29 (ET)

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich., Oct 12, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. (ECD Ovonics) (ENER, Trade) announced today that its subsidiary, Ovonic Battery Company, Inc., has been awarded a $900,000 contract by Xcel Energy, Inc. to develop its Ovonic proprietary Biofuel Reformation technology.

The two-year, cost-shared technology development contract will support Ovonic Battery's research and development of a new process for reforming renewable fuels, such as bioethanol and biomethanol, to produce hydrogen for the production of clean energy.

In this fundamentally new approach patented by ECD Ovonics, the temperature of reforming biofuels into hydrogen gas has been dramatically reduced. The reforming process can thereby become potentially simpler and cheaper, both in operating cost and capital investment. The program will transfer this process from research to pilot level, examining the commercialization feasibility from both a technical and an economic perspective. ECD Ovonics' process has the potential to be environmentally superior by avoiding the generation of CO2, a greenhouse gas which contributes to global warming. Biofuel reformation is an important component of the emerging hydrogen economy, with a strategic benefit of reducing our nation's dependence on imported oil.

Stanford R. Ovshinsky, president and chief scientist and technologist of ECD Ovonics, stated, "Ovonic technology has gained significant inroads in the global marketplace as evidenced by our NiMH batteries used in hybrid electric vehicles and our thin-film triple-junction amorphous solar products. This program is yet another example of our strong intellectual property and allows us to further develop our hydrogen production technology using our expertise in catalysts directed to biofuel reformation."

Michelle Swanson, Manager of Policy Analysis of Xcel Energy commented, "Xcel is pleased to be working with ECD Ovonics to study the feasibility for large scale hydrogen generation for the production of clean energy utilizing Ovonic technology."

When you mention "Bio-Fuels" people are listening up! So I hope that will be the case here also... >:D

Cheers!
Happy trading...

Well - well - well....life is interesting!

Yesterday (early) I bought more ENER.
Bargain price  ;D 33.83....

A few hours later I recieved these two:

:o  :o  :o

http://xml.10kwizard.com/filing_raw.php?repo=tenk&ipage=3743267

and  :o

http://xml.10kwizard.com/filing_raw.php?repo=tenk&ipage=3743247

:o  :o  :o

Yes - I've read them. And - no! I don't quite understand them.  :-[

What I think I see is, that the retireing owners of the company is going to sell most of their shares to the company?
For a nice $300,000,000.- profit.  :D (I could feel tempted too, in a similar situation!)
And that the company might/might not decide to sell those shares to  ...  us.
If they need the money, that is.

Now: This could all be wishfull thinking on my part, (I know that one is not supposed to fall in love with a stock, but I'm not perfect!) and I'm hoping that if these shares do hit the market, it will be so the company can get some additional cash on hand for development of whatever-else-fantastic-stuff-they-are-working-on-for-the-time-being.

It could also be that the "boat" has developed a leak, is sinking fast, and everybody wants to get out fast!

But I find the latter hard to believe, having followed this particular stock for several years.

The yahoo-messageboard is humming, and some very nervous people have been throwing their stock away during the after-hours.

ENER was last traded at 33.02, and lowest AH was 31.75. (I started this post by telling you that I bought it at 33.83, didn't I?  ::))
...and I'm sure that there will be a lot of very skitterish people selling out the next couple of days...
As I'm not familiar with shorting stock, I can't even imagine what shorts could do to it!  :(

All my blabbering boils down to:

1) Does anybody out there in our great community have the time and interest to read the two links above, and tell me if I'm way off?

2) I want to alert whomever might want to sell their ENER asap, if they can't stomach the turbulence ahead.

3) I want to alert whomever have an interest in buying (more?) ENER, because it seems like this can be had at a very good price in the days ahead!  ;)

I will keep mine, and try to free some money for "cheap" shares.
"Averaging down" I believe it's called, and it's probably not normally a good idea. But this time I think I will.

I'm looking forward to your comments.

Thank you.

Happy trading...

Just wanted to add the chart.

It clearly shows that ENER took a nasty dive at the beginning of this month, as did many other stock -.

Cumulina,

Yeah, these stocks have really gotten whacked, haven't they?  I've had ENER on my radar for a possible buy and, yesterday, was watching this "possible" bullish Inverse H&S pattern emerging on the hourly chart:

http://ts-lc.sc8.finance.lycos.com/1123874431937?User=demo&Pswd=demo&DataType=GIF&Symbol=NASDAQ:ENER&Interval=60&Permission=1000&Ht=400&Wd=600&Display=2&Study=&Param1=&Param2=&Param3=&FontSize=10&LocaleID=0x0409

The neckline is the October 17 high of 34.98 and the October 24 high of 34.74.  If ENER can complete the right shouder and take out the neckline, it measures to about 39.00.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that we could be looking at a Bump and Run Reversal (BARR), originally called a Bump and Run Formation (BARF).  BARF, in English, is a euphemism for vomit, which I think is a more descriptive acronym, given how nasty the reversal can be.

;D

http://www.stockcharts.com/education/ChartAnalysis/images/barr-intl.png

In the Bump and Run Reversal (BARR):

1. Phase 1 is the Lead-in: June 8-August 18 on the chart below.  That's a nice, steady ascent.

2. The next phase is the Bump:  August 18- October 3.  The bump is a much steeper ascent than the Lead-In, due to the speculative, sharp advance in the stock.

3. Once the trendline of the Bump Phase is broken, the stock likely is headed back to the Lead-In trendline.  ENER broke the "Bump Trendline" on a gap down on October 6, then broke below the Lead-In trendline on October 18.

Once the Lead-In trendline is broken, the stock is in the "Run Phase," unless it can get back above the Lead-In trendline.

The Run Phase can be just as ferocious on the downside as the Bump Phase was on the upside.

In the case of ENER, it got back above the Lead-In trendline on October 24, and closed just about dead on it yesterday.

QuoteENER was last traded at 33.02, and lowest AH was 31.75.

If ENER trades down like that at the open, it's another break of the Lead-In trendline, and the Run Phase would be back in effect.

Quote3) I want to alert whomever have an interest in buying (more?) ENER, because it seems like this can be had at a very good price in the days ahead!

I will keep mine, and try to free some money for "cheap" shares.
"Averaging down" I believe it's called, and it's probably not normally a good idea. But this time I think I will.

Yeah, averaging down generally isn't a good idea, particularly if the recent low of 30.51 gets taken out.  The Run Phase could get nasty if it gets under way.  ENER had nearly a 200% rally from June to October, so a further decline might be in the cards here.

QuoteWhat I think I see is, that the retireing owners of the company is going to sell most of their shares to the company?

As we know, the market doesn't like uncertainty.  That news could precipitate a decline.  "Sell first... ask questions later."  We'll see how ENER opens today.

The Bump Phase began from 25.29 (solid green line) and the 200DMA is at 24.68, so we might head down there if we can't take out the Inverse H&S neckline, and if 30.51 gets taken out to the downside.

Good luck, Cumulina!

Thank YOU, Melf Elf!

...How come that I thought that you might be the one offering your evaluations?  :-*

That was a very nice answer. - Not quite what I had hoped for...I was looking for something a bit more "Poly-Anna'ish".

I don't think there can be any doubt that there will be a lot of butchering the stock, come opening.
As you mentioned, traders don't like doubts. And this is confusing (to me at least.)

I'll take it easy, and won't hop out into the frenzy.
ENER has earlier proven to be a good stock, and I'm sure that it'll right itself again.

I can't get over the fact that I managed to purchase the stock just a few hours before these news. Can't one use this "knack" for something more productive? Like predicting when the next vulcano will erupt - or something usefull?

Going to be interesting today. Right now I'll go to sleep - have been on night-duty, and I'm pretty blurry-eyed. I'll probably dream about solarpanels, millions of $$$ with wings flying away into the sunset, hydrogen cars and ...- good night!

Thanks again, Melf Elf.

Happy trading...

Cumulina,

I sold DNDN yesterday at what I "thought" would be resistance, literally seconds before it took off to the upside on a breakout. The market knows the exact moment that we buy or sell, then does the opposite of whatever move we just made.  lol.

Sweet dreams...sleep well.

hi,
just a quick look at the chart will tell you in the long term it has reached its peak at the $45  mark.  . "more highs are reached in september than any other month". w.d. gann wrote this in ' 45 YEARS ON WALL STREET" jesse livermore might look at a stock like that and see that it had reached its pivitol point and is heading down and start shorting. it may rally again to 35- 36 but not to $45 imo.
take a look at a bunch of charts that had bull runs from april - to september.
if averaging down was part of your original plan for the trade then go for it. it only really works for healthy retracements rather than bearish trends which by looking at the chart this stock is now in. having said all that i a willing to be proved wrong because the market is not reading my post...lol........it has the final say as always
thanks
maxi

Things didn't turn out as gloomy as I had feared.  ::)

Sure...ENER took a nosedive, but righed itself (almost) within hours.

I'm taking that as a sign of strength. ;D

Owning ENER this past month has been a mixed blessing, but now it seems that things are looking up again.

Right now it is trading at 34.22, up 2.5%
