Small cap power: CIMT

David, of all your main portfolio picks this one is one which I have the most reservations for decent returns. It seems to me that this industry is dominated by huge players (Autodesk, MicroStation, Dassault, etc), and to hope that a relatively small company such as CIMT to effectively compete against the big players seems like spitting against the wind in my humble opinion. In my business I use AutoCAD everyday as my primary design-engineering software program and I cannot even think about changing to anything else.

BTW I do think this period we are facing now with the credit crunch is a very serious threat to the equities market but if the Fed and other world banks are determined to calm market jitters in a proactive manner without inciting inflationary fears and are successful at it then this will indeed be looked upon as a fantastic buying opportunity for a lot of great, undervalued stocks.

would you say then that it could possibly close the gap down to around $1.38/share? short term that is.
I sure hope that is not the case.
I am tired of the basher on yahoo board being right.
>:(

The $.10 EPS estimate David made would boost the stock up to $6 to $8 per David, but I only see the gap closing if they posted a decline YOY or negative EPS.  But anything greater than zero would only test the recent lows IMO, not fill the gap.

BTW, not sure why you would be tired of the basher "being right" because for the most part he is wrong daily, he has been calling for $1.40 or $.99 by tomorrow or next week for months now, calls for low closes that never happen, etc..  Seems to me he is always WRONG lol.

But in general, Im tired of the basher too, but I realize that he or she is either from another company, is literally insane, or is a paid basher or short.  Nothing else can explain that much effort to bash a microcap.

check out this link. I first saw this listed by La Onda a while back on another stock and I have been using it for other stocks.
first of all I don't know how reliable this link is but nontheless it has support 1 at 1.66 and 2nd support at .82
for David's portfolio and my little crummy portfolio's sake, I pray to God it doesn't mean that if it doesn't reach EPS of $0.10 it would be looked at as a negative and make the stock go to either of those support levels.

The basher has gotten to you man, get yourself out of the Matrix Neo!

$0.10 is a sort of best case scenario that would rocket the stock up.  I think the only way you get to the gap at $1.60 again is 3 months from now if they report $.01 or something like that or if the general market tanks massively (but even then, this is an Israeli company with a strong balance sheet, its not impacted much by the overall market in the US).

BTW, didnt even click that link but its clear from the chart that there is very strong support around the $1.40, so it seems that that software missed that.  I SERIOUSLY doubt that CIMT will ever see that $.82 zone ever again.

I posted on YMB, but if you look at that symettrical triangle that David has in his chart, it has a breakout target of about $3.00.  The only way I see it breaking to the downside is if the company releases some kind of really bad news.  That is doubtful, they seem to be interested in telling all good news right now.  If they release some more good news in the next week or two I bet you see a strong marubozu up breaking out of that symetrical triangle.  It could happen even without any specific news, you already see little spikes up happening intraday.

I would say downside is very limited from now until earnings release, and you can see that upside of $3.00 where coincidentally we again start to see resistance from the gap.  If you feel uncomfortable with the size of you CIMT position, I think you will get a chance to lighten up soon.  Just my opinion of course, but I think the chart and fundamentals back it up.

A few years ago we probably wouldnt have thought that a small company called Under Armour could start competing with Nike on an appreciable scale, but if you have innovative products, that is what happens over time.

Besides, if I understand correctly (and I may not), CIMT has its strenght specifically in CAM as opposed to CAD in general (to answer your concern about the dominance of AutoCAD).  When you are small, you go for the very niche markets that your competitors may not be that interested in, dominate there first, then branch out.  To use the Under Armour analogy, they put lots of effort into football first, and now are branching out.

Finally, as small as CIMT is, ANY market share it can take from the big guys will have a much larger impact on its bottom line, but will be sort of like a small nuisance to the bigger competitors.

Its just my opinion, maybe David will have more to say on the matter.  But yes, give yourself a break from YMB, I just go in there every now and then now, its less necessary than when earnings were about to be announced.

They are either paid to do that or are invalids who have nothing else to do with their time.  No normal person has time to spend hours on those boards bashing stocks they have no interest in!

What I wonder about CIMT is why does it trade so few shares?  Some days it does not trade at all until later in the day.  If one has a postion & it goes bad ... who would you sell to?

Let's get one thing straight pinoleropuro. Say CIMT trades at the average valuation of 15 times earnings (this is the current P/E of the S&P 500). I think it should have a higher valuation, but that's another issue.

If the stock posts $0.05 EPS, it should trade at $0.05*4 quarters = $0.20*15 times earnings = $3. If it posts a $0.07 EPS quarter, it should trade at $0.07*4*15 = $4.2. And if we get the $0.10 quarter, with the same method, we get $6 a share.

Since I wrote probably we'll get $0.06 - $0.08 EPS in the 3rd quarter, I would expect the stock to trade around $4.2. Not to go down to close the gap at $1.4. For that to happen CIMT would have to post a loss, and even that wouldn't last, because of the very low Price to Sales Ratio. But I don't think that's going to happen.

I agree with everything Tokyopua posted.

Thanks for your comments on CIMT capricho, I appreciate them. You see, CIMT is just a $16 M market cap, with annual sales around $23 M. It doesn't take much for it to be worth about $100 M. Just a hair of market share will do the trick. I'm not expecting CIMT to go from micro to medium or mega cap, just to go from micro to small cap. And the fundamental improvement has been happening, the last three quarters were encouraging and the 3rd and 4th quarters will probably be superb. Anyway, thanks for sharing your concerns :)

QuoteIts just my opinion, maybe David will have more to say on the matter.  But yes, give yourself a break from YMB, I just go in there every now and then now, its less necessary than when earnings were about to be announced.

Opinions are just that, opinions. And they can't move a stock away from its intrinsic fundamental value for long. I don't think anyone should be concerned if there are people writing negative things about CIMT, they don't have any power to move the stock one way or the other.

QuoteWhat I wonder about CIMT is why does it trade so few shares?  Some days it does not trade at all until later in the day.  If one has a postion & it goes bad ... who would you sell to?

CIMT has few shares in the market because it never diluted shareholder's value. It's better this way, trust me. Don't worry, there will always be buyers. And if the stock goes down because someone decided to sell a big block of shares due to lack of patience, not a worsening of the fundamental landscape, the stock will recover back up to its intrinsic fundamental value. Inefficiencies have a limit.

Technically CIMT now has a support at $1.94 and a resistance at $2.3. The symmetrical triangle will close in mid September and CIMT will have to break it, one way or the other. I think it will go up, because fundamentals have been improving and clearly the best is yet to come.

Why bother reading the YMB at all? Avoid the stress. If there is any pertinent info, it will be posted here, the good "hype" along with credible negative sentiment. Everything you need is right here. My bet is the YMB "bashers" are just cheap, 2 bit, wannabee, longs. Chances are they will miss the upside, because they will always want it cheaper.

Sure, I can understand that you are resistant to change. You are used to the AutoCad program and why even consider changing a good thing? I imagine you are right, many big companies would be reluctant to changing their software to one produced by a tiny Israeli company. But what about all the smaller design engineering/machining  companies and startups? And then there is a whole new market to exploit in China and India still. Lots of opportunities for CIMT to grow immensely and the potential for very large returns to the shareholder, IMO. It won't take alot of improvement for CIMT to show .10/share this Q,  in fact, I think it is highly possible, even probable. Look at "tiny" Hurcos-HURC. Many said they could never stand up to the much bigger players in the computer controlled machinery sector. The last four years or so have definitely proven them wrong.

-------------------------------

I am still hoping it does drop back again before next ER as I am not done accumulating this yet. But I'm going to limit to about 3% or so of my port. and let it grow to a higher percentage. That way I will never get stressed out over it regardless what happens.

You guys that talk about doubling up, I wouldn't suggest it, as the daily fluctuations are already making you way too nervous and must already have too much involved here. Keep your hands strong on this one.

Thanks for your take on CIMT BigSully1, I'm glad you appreciate it, as it improves the odds of this being a good long term pick :)

QuoteIt won't take alot of improvement for CIMT to show .10/share this Q,  in fact, I think it is highly possible, even probable.

You think so? That would be awesome, because the 4th quarter would probably be even stronger than the 3rd, due to positive seasonality. A $0.10 EPS quarter in Q3 and the following strong Q4 could put CIMT in the $8-$10 range, as the earnings multiple would certainly expand.

Almost no volume today. It's better this way. CIMT is a rocket that needs news to take off, but when it does ... we may very well have a 100% to 200% upside day.

I'll continue holding CIMT for the long term.

Capital Appreciation Analysis   Back to top

Value: Value is a measure of a stock's current worth.  CIMT has a current Value of $2.96 per share. Therefore, it is undervalued compared to its Price of $2.11 per share.  Value is computed from forecasted earnings per share, forecasted earnings growth, profitability, interest, and inflation rates. Value increases when earnings, earnings growth rate and profitability increase, and when interest and inflation rates decrease. VectorVest advocates the purchase of undervalued stocks. At some point in time, a stock's Price and Value always will converge.

RV (Relative Value): RV is an indicator of long-term price appreciation potential. CIMT has an RV of 1.28, which is very good on a scale of 0.00 to 2.00. This indicator is far superior to a simple comparison of Price and Value because it is computed from an analysis of projected price appreciation three years out, AAA Corporate Bond Rates, and risk. RV solves the riddle of whether it is preferable to buy High growth, High P/E stocks, or Low growth, Low P/E stocks. VectorVest favors the purchase of stocks with RV ratings above 1.00.

RS (Relative Safety): RS is an indicator of risk. CIMT has an RS rating of 0.88, which is fair on a scale of 0.00 to 2.00. RS is computed from an analysis of the consistency and predictability of a company's financial performance, debt to equity ratio, sales volume, business longevity, price volatility and other factors. A stock with an RS rating greater than 1.00 is safer and more predictable than the average stock in the VectorVest database. VectorVest favors the purchase of stocks of companies with consistent, predictable financial performance.

RT (Relative Timing): RT is a fast, smart, accurate indicator of a stock's price trend. CIMT has a Relative Timing rating of 0.98, which is fair on a scale of 0.00 to 2.00.  RT is computed from an analysis of the direction, magnitude, and dynamics of a stock's price movements over one day, one week, one quarter and one year time periods. Once a stock's price has established a strong trend, it is expected to continue in that trend for the short-term. If a trend dissipates, RT will gravitate toward 1.00. RT will explode from bottoms, dive from tops, and reflect changes in price momentum. VectorVest favors the purchase of stocks with RT ratings above 1.00.

VST (VST-Vector):  VST is the master indicator for ranking every stock in the VectorVest database. CIMT has a VST rating of 1.05, which is fair on a scale of 0.00 to 2.00. VST is computed from the square root of a weighted sum of the squares of RV, RS, and RT. Stocks with the highest VST ratings have the best combinations of Value, Safety and Timing. These are the stocks to own for above average, long-term capital appreciation. VectorVest advocates the purchase of safe, undervalued stocks rising in price.

Recommendation (REC): VectorVest gives a Buy, Sell, Hold recommendation on every stock, every day. CIMT has a Hold recommendation. REC reflects the cumulative effect of all the VectorVest parameters working together. These parameters are designed to help investors buy safe, undervalued stocks rising in price. They also help investors avoid or sell risky, overvalued stocks falling in price. VectorVest recommends that investors buy high VST-Vector, Buy-rated stocks in rising markets.

Stop (Stop-Price): Stop is an indicator of when to sell a long position or cover a short position.  CIMT has a Stop of $2.06 per share. This is $0.05 below CIMT's current closing Price. A stock's Stop is computed from a 13 week moving average of its closing prices, and is fine-tuned according to the stock's fundamentals. High RV, high RS stocks have lower Stops, and low RV, low RS stocks have higher Stops. In the VectorVest system, a stock gets a 'B' or 'H' recommendation if its Price is above its Stop and an 'S' recommendation if its Price is below its Stop.

GRT (Earnings Growth Rate): GRT reflects a company's one to three year forecasted earnings growth rate in percent per year. CIMT has a forecasted Earnings Growth Rate of 17.00%, which VectorVest considers to be very good. GRT is computed from historical, current and forecasted earnings data. It is updated each week for every stock in the VectorVest database. GRT often foretells a stock's future price trend. If a stock's GRT trend is upward, the stock's price will likely rise. If GRT is trending downward, the stock's Price will probably fall. VectorVest favors the purchase of stocks whose GRT is rising and is greater than the sum of current inflation and interest rates, (8.30%).

EPS (Earnings per Share):  EPS stands for leading 12 months Earnings Per Share.  CIMT has a forecasted EPS of $0.15 per share. VectorVest determines this forecast from a combination of recent earnings performance and traditional fiscal and/or calendar year earnings forecasts.

P/E (Price to Earnings Ratio): P/E is a popular measure of stock valuation which shows the dollars required to buy one dollar of earnings.  CIMT has a P/E of 14.07. This ratio may be deemed to be high or low depending upon your frame of reference. The average P/E of all the stocks in the VectorVest database is 30.42. P/E is computed daily using the formula: P/E = Price/EPS.

EY (Earnings Yield): EY reflects earnings per share as a percent of Price. EY is related to P/E via the formula, EY = 100 / (P/E), and may be used in place of P/E as a measure of valuation. EY has the advantages that it is always determinate and can reflect negative earnings. CIMT has an EY of 6.98 percent. This is above the current average of 3.30% for all the stocks in the VectorVest database. EY equals 100 x (EPS/Price).

GPE (Growth to P/E Ratio): GPE is another popular measure of stock valuation. It compares earnings growth rate to P/E ratio. CIMT has a GPE rating of 1.19.  High growth stocks are believed to be able to justify high P/E ratios. A stock is commonly considered to be undervalued when GPE is greater than 1.00 and overvalued when GPE is below 1.00. Unfortunately, this rule of thumb does not take into account the effect of interest rates on P/E ratios. The operative GPE ratio of 1.00 is valid when and only when interest rates equal 10%. With long-term interest rates currently at 5.90%, the operative GPE ratio is 0.35. Therefore, CIMT may be considered to be undervalued.

Dividend Analysis   Back to top

DIV (Dividend): VectorVest reports annual, regular, cash dividends as indicated by the most recent payments. Special distributions, one-time payments, stock dividends, etc., are not generally included in DIV. CIMT does not pay a dividend.

DY (Dividend Yield): DY reflects dividend per share as a percent of Price. CIMT does not pay a dividend, so it does not have a Dividend Yield rating. . DY equals 100 x (DIV/Price). It is useful to compare DY with EY. If DY is not significantly lower than EY, the dividend payment may be in jeopardy.

DS (Dividend Safety): DS is an indicator of the assurance that regular cash dividends will be declared and paid at current or at higher rates for the foreseeable future. CIMT does not pay a dividend, so it does not have a Dividend Safety rating . Stocks with DS values above 75 typically have RS values well above 1.00 and EY levels that are much higher than DY.

DG (Dividend Growth Rate): Dividend Growth is a subtle yet important indicator of a company's financial performance. It also provides some insight into the board's outlook on the company's ability to increase earnings. CIMT does not pay a dividend, so it does not have a Dividend Growth rating .

YSG (YSG-Vector): YSG is an indicator which combines DIV, DY and DG into a single value, and allows direct comparison of all dividend-paying stocks in the database. CIMT does not pay a dividend, so it does not have a YSG rating . Stocks with the highest YSG values have the best combinations of Dividend Yield, Safety and Growth. These are the stocks to buy for above average current income and long-term growth.

Price-Volume Data   Back to top

Price: CIMT closed on 8/24/2007 at $2.11 per share

Close: CIMT closed trading at price $2.11 per share on 8/24/2007. (Close is also called Price in the VectorVest system)

Range: Range reflects the difference between the High and Low prices for the day. CIMT traded with a range of $0.04 per share on 8/24/2007.

$Change: CIMT closed unchanged  from the prior day's closing Price.

%PRC: CIMT's Price changed 0.00% from the prior day's closing price.

Volume: CIMT traded 3,261 shares on 8/24/2007.

AvgVol: AvgVol is the 50 day moving average of daily volume as computed by VectorVest. CIMT has an AvgVol of 19,500 shares traded per day.

%Vol: %Vol reflects the percent change in today's trading volume as compared to the AvgVol. %Vol equals ((Volume - AvgVol) / AvgVol ) * 100.  CIMT had a %Vol of -83.28% on 8/24/2007

CI (Comfort Index): CI is an indicator which reflects a stock's ability to resist severe and/or lengthy price declines. CIMT has a CI rating of 1.18, which is good on a scale of 0.00 to 2.00. CI is quite different from RS in that it is based solely upon a stock's long-term price history. VectorVest advocates the purchase of high CI stocks.

Sales / Market Capitalization Information   Back to top

Sales: CIMT has annual sales of $21,000,000

Sales Growth: Sales Growth is the Sales Growth Rate in percent over the last 12 months. CIMT has a Sales Growth of 9.00% per year. This is good. Sales Growth is updated each week for every stock. It is often useful to compare Sales Growth to Earnings Growth to gain an insight into a company's operations.

Sales Per Share (SPS): CIMT has annual sales of $2.79 per share. SPS can be used as a measure of valuation when comparing stocks within an Industry Group.

Price to Sales Ratio (P/S): CIMT has a P/S of 0.76. This ratio is also used as a measure of valuation. Here, too, it is useful when comparing stocks within an Industry Group.

Shares: CIMT has 7,000,000 shares of stock outstanding.

Market Capitalization: CIMT has a Market Capitalization of $16,000,000. Market Capitalization is calculated by multiplying price times shares outstanding.

Summary   Back to top

CIMT is undervalued compared to its Price of $2.11 per share, has somewhat below average safety, and is currently rated a Hold.

The basic strategy of VectorVest is to buy Low risk, High reward stocks. We suggest that Prudent investors buy enough High Relative Value, High Relative Safety stocks to keep the overall RV and RS ratings of their portfolios above 1.00. As you do this, you'll find that your risk will go down and your investment performance will improve.

check this out!
vector vest analysis on CIMT

Hi pinoleropuro,

Thanks for sharing that analysis ;) do you use that service?
I don't know how this guys at Vector Vest get this kind of analysis done, apparently its 100% computer processed without human hand, nice technology.

As you know David is taking a week off for vacations, and I'm taking care of the «house» this week, even though I'll be in contact with David on a daily basis.

Here's a little technical update for CIMT:
CIMT continues to trade inside the triangular pattern with low volume, ascending support near $1.98 and resistance near $2.30 are the reference prices for this pattern. After that the $3.00 is the next resistance level (bottom of the gap down from May 2007), for the down side the last support level would be $1.66.
At the end of July CIMT had a breakout of the downtrend pattern and has been on a distribution stage since then. On my chart I used the exponential moving averages instead of simple averages, and even with that big drop we can still watch the ema-50 above the ema-200.
From an empirical point of view, I would say that CIMT may be preparing itself for an upside breakout, and that would corroborate with the Fundamentals.

Portfolio Instructions:
Hold CIMT
