Be prepared for their private placement like AOB, VPHM, ... did recently.

I believe that SVA will have one or two pretty soon.

news:
Sinovac near choosing Beijing hospital for bird flu vaccine-official

Monday , December 05, 2005 04:08 ET

By Staff Reporter
BEIJING, Dec 05, 2005 (XFN-ASIA via COMTEX) -- Chinese pharmaceutical firm Sinovac Biotech Ltd (AMEX SVA) will soon announce the name of a Beijing hospital which will be the site of its initial stage human trials for a bird flu vaccine, a company official said.

"We are currently in intensive talks with a candidate hospital in Beijing that possesses all the necessary facilities, but final authorization has not yet been given," Lu Zhenyou, company spokeswoman, told XFN-Asia.

China's State Food and Drug Administration last month authorized Sinovac to commence clinical trials on humans for its bird flu vaccine prototype -- Panflu.

"Sinovac is now in the later stages of research into human clinical trials. This is a critical project and we will soon finish a series of preparatory phases before beginning with full clinical trials," Lu said.
She was quoted by local media shortly after clinical testing authorization as saying that it might take at least a year before the company's pandemic influenza vaccine finishes scheduled stage two clinical trials.
"The first stage will involve a small corps of volunteers with the emphasis on ensuring the safety of the vaccine and evaluating any possible reactions or side effects. The second stage will invite more volunteers and determine appropriate dosages as well as study longer-term effects," Lu said.
She added that Sinovac and a group of government scientists will select 100 volunteers aged between 18 and 60 to comprise the first clinical trial group.
If approved, the vaccine would first be given to high-risk groups such as veterinary, laboratory and medical workers as well as poultry farmers in afflicted regions, the company said on its website, adding that the project is the result of a 21-month joint development program between Sinovac and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
Lu said that while Panflu targets the H5N1, or bird flu, strain of viruses, the company's product will also be effective against mutated forms of the pathogen as variant forms of the strain could be manually supplanted into the core of the vaccine.
It is believed that Roche's Tamiflu antiviral would be the most effective drug currently on the market at counteracting any H5N1 pandemic among humans.
The Swiss drugmaker has reportedly allowed Shanghai Pharmaceutical Group Co Ltd, parent of Shanghai Pharmaceutical Co Ltd (SHA 600849), to produce Tamiflu as a generic drug.
"We produce a vaccine, Roche produces a cure," Lu said, adding that there is no competitive overlap between the two firms as Sinovac focuses solely on vaccines.
"We have no plans at this time to develop medicines for curing ailments of any kind," she said.
"Our development and production processes have been completely in-house so there has been no possibility of IPR issues or complaints from other companies," Lu said.
While Lu declined to disclose investment amounts, she did say that the Chinese government was underlining its intense interest in getting the project off the ground with its levels of financial support to date.
"We cannot offer specific investment figures or breakdowns at this time, but I can say that government investment in the production of Panflu is greater than 50 pct of the total," Lu said.
She said pricing considerations for the vaccine have yet to be factored in and finalized.
"We plan to make the price of our bird flu vaccine no more expensive than the current price of existing season flu vaccines in China. But our determination of appropriate dosage levels will bring more clarity to the cost per individual question," she said.

China's ministry of agriculture announced over the weekend that another outbreak of bird flu had appeared in the far western region of Xinjiang, bringing the total number in the country this year to 30.
The outbreak was the ninth to have hit Xinjiang this year, making the region one of the hardest hit by bird flu. The disease has killed more than 60 people in Asia since 2003.
Some health officials fear that the virus could mutate to the extent where it is easily transmitted from human to human, an event that could lead to a global pandemic capable of killing hundreds of millions of people.
Sinovac reported a 2004 net loss of 4.95 mln usd against a loss of 500, 000 a year earlier. Revenue in 2004 more than doubled year-on-year to 6.45 mln.

Below that, the trendline (dark blue line) off the mid-August low comes in today, November 30th, at 5.40.  That isn't a validated trendline (there are only 2 "hits"), but I'm going to use a close below that as my stop, to limit my risk on the trade to about 5%.

Sold SVA at 5.37.  Loss 5%.

Friday's 5.44 close was below both the up trendline and the bottom of the Kumo (Cloud) at 5.485.

SVA might be a good rebound play if the support at 5 or so holds..

Repost from Technical Analysis folder on Wolfe Waves and Gartleys:

Here is a wolfe wave setup:  Points 1, 2, 3 and 4 are already setup.  Point 5 looks like it may be coming very soon.

thai,

Nice work.  Applause.

I was looking at SVA from the standpoint of a possible Bullish Gartley. If 4.82-4.85 support doesn't hold here, it would be interesting if we decline to your Point #5 and reach 4.34 and hold there, which would be a symmetry of both price and time.

If that occurs, and SVA holds near 4.34 and rallies, that would complete your Wolfe Wave and also complete the Bullish Gartley.  I'm not sure if this is a valid Gartley since the ratios weren't quite right.
Just something to watch for if SVA continues to decline here.

I'm not quite sure what you guys are talking about ( the technical stuff  ;) ) but todays news should do something to SVA, I think. It's up about 10% in pre-market...

Sinovac Receives Government Funding for Pandemic Flu Vaccine Research and Development
Friday December 9, 8:13 am ET

BEIJING, Dec. 9 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Sinovac Biotech Ltd. (Amex: SVA - News) announced it has received RMB7,000,000 (USD$867,000) from China's Ministry of Science and Technology for the preclinical trials R&D of its proprietary Pandemic flu vaccine (Panflu(TM)) for humans.

Since April 2004, Sinovac has received over USD$1,000,000 from different departments of Chinese government for its pandemic flu vaccine R&D. This government funding to Sinovac, more than any other vaccine project for its study in preclinical stage to date, is expected to continue.

This work has a high priority, because of a possible flu pandemic. Most health officials estimate a flu pandemic would last a year or more, and millions of lives would be at risk. One of the most effective countermeasures against pandemic flu is to manufacture mass quantities of vaccines as quickly as possible.

The Chinese government holds great expectations for Sinovac's successful development of a safe and efficacious pandemic flu vaccine for humans. Sinovac's goal is to contribute to the Chinese and international public health emergency.

Sinovac CEO and Director, Mr. Weidong Yin commented, "We are moving quickly in the face of a possible pandemic, but not cutting corners on safety. Everyone here at Sinovac takes very seriously, their commitment towards global health, while providing returns to our investors. We also work together to boost global capacity for pandemic flu vaccine."

Sinovac's vaccine includes an adjuvant (aluminum) to boost the immune response. By increasing the immune response, smaller doses of vaccine are necessary; making it possible to produce more doses quickly.
Happy trading...

We're trying to figure where SVA might find support if 4.82-4.85 support fails  ???

Thanks for that news.  I kind of hate to see SVA gap up like that at the open into resistance (5.525-6.145).  If it can blast its way through all of that resistance, then it's okay, but from this position (below support), a gap like that often gets filled.

I am glad to see that 4.82-4.85 support held yesterday, though.

Technically, it will look better, now that the opening gap is filled/mostly filled, if SVA can mount a rally from here into that 5.525-6.145 resistance area.

The opening gap filled completely at 10:54AM.

Hi, Melf Elf!
I'm a newbie in the market.
I'm holding this one right now and I'm not sure what I should do at this point (I lost some).
What is you opinion about this stock and what do you think the next support is going to be?
