OK I'll add this which I think says it all:

Check out the insider buying since the beginning of December on OPSW:
http://www.form4oracle.com/company?cik=0001100813&ticker=opsw

One director, Michael Homer has bought 350,000 shares in the last week and a half, costing him a little over $2.1 million.
Another, Michael Ovitz, has bought 172,000 shares in the same time period, costing him just ove $1 million.

Is there any reason that two directors would be accumulating such huge amounts of shares at this level other than that they expect it to go MUCH higher from here?  I think good things could be in the works for OPSW. ;)

INSIDE SCOOP |

Mike Ovitz Buys More Opsware

By NAUREEN S. MALIK

Insider Tables: Buyers | Sellers

MICHAEL OVITZ, the former Hollywood powerbroker, is increasing his stake in Opsware, a small software-maker.

Last week, Ovitz and Michael Homer, both members of Opsware's board of directors, purchased roughly 488,000 shares in the open market for $2.9 million, according to Securities and Exchange Commission filings.

Though the stock has soared 65% after plummeting to a one-year low of 3.90 in May, shares are still off 12% this year.

"These guys are really pouring some decent cash into the company buying some stock," says Ben Silverman, research director of InsiderScore.com. "There historically hasn't been much buying," but the directors continued to buy "with the stock moving up" and after an analyst initiated a Buy rating on it.

Opsware's Chief Executive Officer Benjamin Horowitz kick started the recent spate of buying in September with a purchase of 12,000 shares.

He says more than 90% of his net worth is tied in Opsware. But with shares trading at $4.46 in September, he says "it was too good of a deal to pass up just knowing what I know and where the real floor is in the stock."

Horowitz says the selloff by investors earlier this year was "just really ridiculous."

"If you don't want to buy it, I'll buy it... might as well put my money where my mouth is," he adds.

It was his first purchase since June 2002, according to Thomson data. The stock made its public debut in late 2001. Horowitz made $2 million selling 250,000 stocks acquired through options in June 2004, his only sell transaction.

Horowitz co-founded Opsware with former Netscape Communications colleague Marc Andreessen, who co-founded the browser. Andreessen recruited former Walt Disney Co. president Ovitz to Opsware's board.

Ovitz has been Opsware's most active buyer. A board member since 2000, he picked up 135,000 shares last week.

Meanwhile, Silicon Valley veteran Homer, who also worked at Netscape, purchased 236,409 last week. He is now chairman of Kontiki, a privately held video-on-demand solutions company, and sits on the board of Palm Inc.

In dollar terms, it was the highest level of fourth quarter buying in five years, where insiders on average bought $353,000 in stock, according to data provider Thomson Financial.

Horowitz, Homer and Ovitz each purchased shares on behalf of a family trust. "I like to see that because that's socking it away," says Silverman, noting trusts are typically used for long-term investments.

This spate of buying activity is somewhat offset by two senior executives who have been selling under adopted trading plans, says Joshua Hong, director of research website InsiderScoop.com.

Analysts Katherine Egbert and James Alexander of Jefferies & Co. cite these recent sells in addition to inconsistent margins and lack of profitability as cautionary flags, in a report released prior to last week's purchases by the directors.

However, CEO Horowitz says that the selling by Sharlene Abrams, chief financial officer, and Jordan Breslow, general counsel, is a means of "diversification."

Avita Sukhram, research analyst at Thomson Financial, agrees, noting that insider selling has actually declined over the past two years. During traditionally heavy selling months of July and December, insiders unloaded on average 125,000 in 2003 compared to 33,000 this year.

"We definitely see that there is a change in the sentiment [and] a reversal in the trend," says Sukhram.

More insider buys reported today and yesterday by Michelangelo Volpi, an external director who is an exectutive at Cisco.  He picked up more than 75,000 shares bteween 6.45 and 6.58.  It's a lot of accumulation going on.  They gotta know something....

Other than that, not too much movement - opened higher today, but couldn't sustain it - may have a little retrace back to the ascending support line next week, to consolidate the recent move from $6.
Will see.  Hold above 6.30 for now.

Nice push today for OPSW, and looks set for a run into the 7s - closed at 7.00 and up to 7.08 AH :o

If this holds, then it will have broken through this long term resistance band topping at 7.07 - I see resistance at 7.25, 7.49-50 above this, but OPSW is continuing its strong move - anyone else in on this one with me???

Well at least something should go alright for me tomorrow - ATVI announced it expects to miss quarterly numbers and has tanked 15% AH, EGHT just made a placement for 7m shares at 2.10, so that will probably be in trouble and GTE took a hammering in the last hour of trading yesterday after a veery strong (too strong in hindsight) morning - whew!!

PALO ALTO, Calif., Jul 23, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- HP (HPQ, Trade) today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to purchase Opsware Inc. (OPSW, Trade), a market-leading data center automation software company, through a cash tender offer for $14.25 per share, or an enterprise value (net of existing cash and debt) of approximately $1.6 billion on a fully diluted basis.

Upon closing, the acquisition will enhance HP's portfolio of Business Technology Optimization (BTO) software. Combining Opsware's solutions with HP's enterprise IT management software will deliver a comprehensive and fully integrated solution for IT automation. Opsware is the latest in a series of strategic software acquisitions, including Mercury Interactive and Peregrine Systems, which expands HP's leadership in BTO.

"The acquisition of Opsware is intended to enable HP Software to help our customers resolve one of their critical pain points: controlling the increasing complexity and cost of managing the data center," said Thomas E. Hogan, senior vice president, Software, HP. "We expect Opsware's outstanding team will help us drive leadership across our BTO offerings."

Opsware Chief Executive Officer Ben Horowitz said, "We are about to see one of the biggest application and infrastructure build-outs in history. The addition of Opsware to the HP Software portfolio will make HP the obvious choice for powering the next generation of data centers to come."

The acquisition of Opsware is intended to extend HP Software's capabilities to automate the entire data center - from initial provisioning of servers, networks and storage devices to managing ongoing changes and compliance requirements - with integrated process automation, removing the latency inherent in today's IT environments.

"Following last year's acquisition of Mercury Interactive, the addition of Opsware is expected to enhance HP's standing as one of the world's leading software companies and drive profitable growth for HP," said Ann Livermore, executive vice president, Technology Solutions Group, HP. "With this strategic acquisition, I believe customers will see HP as the clear vendor of choice to help them transform how they manage and automate IT to drive better business outcomes."

Following the close of the transaction, Opsware will become part of the HP Software business. At that time, HP also expects to appoint Ben Horowitz to lead the Business Technology Optimization organization reporting to Thomas E. Hogan, senior vice president, HP Software.

The acquisition will be conducted by means of a tender offer for all of the outstanding shares of Opsware, followed by a merger of Opsware with an HP subsidiary. The tender offer is subject to a number of customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and is expected to close before the end of HP's fourth fiscal quarter of 2007.
