Hi there! If you think it's going back to 11 and you can't get shares from your broker, why wouldn't you consider buying a put option? Do you think it will be too slow of a fall to make the option profitable? I'm too chicken to short without options...
Please don't drink and trade...

Investors are taking their profits out of the table..... I still can't short it too bad :(

Goodluck to you 422fwhp!! ;)

...thanks Terliso, I'm still shorting and would love to see a BRC with the close at the low of the day.  :)

How do you think today's news will effect the stock?  Should I bail with a small profit?  It's still not to the 38% fib.retracement...which is where I had planned to cover.

UPDATE1-Acorda to conduct additional Phase III trial for MS drug

Dec 8 (Reuters) - Acorda Therapeutics Inc. (ACOR) said it would conduct an additional late-stage trial for its experimental multiple sclerosis drug based on a feedback from the regulators.

In September, the company had reported positive data from its earlier late-stage trial of the drug, Fampridine-SR.

Acorda Therapeutics said the FDA requires two studies to establish substantial evidence of effectiveness.

The drug is designed to improve the walking speed of patients with multiple sclerosis, a degenerative disease of the nervous system. (Reporting by Ankur Relia in Bangalore)

This stock is unbelievable  :D

njshiva,

Man, I should say so!  WOW, what a performance, huh?  ???  :o

I can remember thinking when you started this folder back in Septermber, "There is no way in the world that I'm going to buy a stock that just went up 217% in one day!"

ACOR closed that day at 8.50; it's now at 24.03, for nearly a triple!

I obviously need to adjust my thinking.  These high flyers make me nervous, and I generally avoid them because of that, but there were some nice trading opportunities in ACOR.

I've got some observations/comments, if any of you are interested, but I want to start with a "folder applause" to njshiva, kslifka, alister, stocky, jody, realdeals, nullzero, oliver, David, alvin, and Samantha (hope I didn't miss anyone) for the nice job that you guys did, and for the interesting discussion.

Jesus, what an incredible run ACOR had. You're shorting just because it went up so much in such a short period of time?

The guy that bought at $2.22 six weeks ago is still 633% ahead on his investment. Shorting now, if it goes to $0, all you can make is 100% (unless you're leveraged). It makes you think if shorting stocks is worth the effort and risk ...

David,

Yes, we get tempted to short things because "they went up too much," and it can be a dangerous game, as it has been in ACOR.

The guy that bought at 2.22 now has almost a 1,000% gain.  ;)

A lot of traders who missed the move today are scared to get in because they will think the run went so high, I think is not, the run has just begun ;) :D

Alister,

Yep.  That was me.  Good observation!

ACOR is madly chased b/c its aiming to get the 6$billion dollar MS pie. Just keep eye on ACOR market cap, however, at the moment I think it may even double from here, or may be bought out. BUT still dont bet a house on it. It may be all hot air. I am not selling my shares here though.

Very nice, Stocky.  Did you ever sell?

Quote from: kslifka on October 03, 2006, 09:09:25 PM
ACOR bounced of the 38% fib retracement and never looked back. Highest close ever today..unfortunately I never bought.  I was wating for the 50% fib retracement, but I guess I should have watched it closer this morning. ???

Nice work on the fibs, kslifka.

Why do I keep NOT buying this stock when it comes down to support??? >:(

I know.  I do that all the time.  Curses!  >:D

Looking good longer term...now with the G-pattern (if it holds) today and a new 52 week high. :o

kslifka,

That about made me want to cry.  :'(

You had such a good read on this stock.   Don't worry.  You'll get rewarded in the future for that kind of good work.

From 2.20 to 16.97 that's 671% in just ten trading days, that's a monster! ;)

There's got to be a pullback on this at least 150% down.
ready to short it?

Alister,

Man, one certainly would have thought so, but if you look at your trading sheet from October 6, the day that you posted this, and the day that there was so much discussion about shorting ACOR, it was at 14.20, and never went any lower than that.

Go figger, huh?  ???

Quote from: Terliso on October 09, 2006, 11:17:22 AM
I still can't get any shares for shorting this stock, I guess that's a good thing because ACOR keeps going up.. :)

LOL.  Yeah, sometimes the market gawds save us from ourselves.   ;)

Sales: Acordia Therapeutics (ACOR 17.35)
CEO sold 50K shares at $15.88-16.92;
Director sold 158.8K shares at $15.87-16.89...

Jody,

And, they'd probably like to have those shares back.

FRPT was given an $11 target around $9 and look where that's headed...just sayin'

FRPT tripled from that day!  Again, we tend to think that a stock "shouldn't" rally that much, but they do, huh?

Welcome back David! ;)

ACOR is ready to turn I believe ;) 16 to 11 that's still 30% profit

Alister,

You nailed that one on the timing.  That was a Bear Flag breakdown that day, and a nice short.  One had to be quick about taking profits on the short, though.  It only went down about $2, and the target didn't get MADE.

"Targets against the dominant trend are less likely to get MADE."

I think if I was short i would have covered on that news. This is only my opinion. good luck

alvin,

Good read.  In stocks that are this bullish, that kind of news can spawn a vicious short squeeze.  ACOR rallied to the November high of 20.60 on that news.

Quote from: alvin58 on November 20, 2006, 11:06:57 AM
hope you covered your short. I bought some at 18.08

After wanting to short it, that was a very nice play, reversing and getting long.  A lot players get stuck in their opinion, and won't look at what's actually happening.  Very nice, alvin.

And, very nice timing on that exit!  I know what you mean about the "paranoia."   Stocks like this really do make me nervous.  Good job!

--- ACOR broke the 50sma daily chart

Alister,

As we've discussed before about MACD, be careful about assuming that a cross below the signal line in a stock this bullish is a sell.

"In stocks that are bullish "your 'sells' often are 'buys,' and the reverse in stocks that are bearish."

Your cross below the signal line on the weekly MACD occurred on January 5, 2007.  It was an exact low in the stock.

Nice job, everyone!
