Friday January 19, 10:36 am ET

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Force Protection, Inc. (NASDAQ:FRPT - News) officially listed its securities on the NASDAQ Capital Market yesterday, commemorating the Company's listing by opening the market at NASDAQ's MarketSite location in New York City.

"We are thrilled to be here today," said Force Protection Chairman Frank Kavanaugh. "We recognize and deeply appreciate the efforts of Force Protection's executive management team, its investors, and workforce who have supported our mission to produce vehicles that protect and save lives, and who have made this important opportunity possible. Shareholders do not need to take any action as a result of the NASDAQ Capital Market listing. Company stock certificates will remain valid.

Popular with troops who credit the vehicles with saving lives, Force Protection's Buffalo and Cougar blast- and ballistic-protected vehicles have an unmatched record for troop safety, protecting against attacks on vehicles led by improvised explosive devices and roadside bombs. Combined, the vehicles have logged more than 1.6 million hours of combat operations since their initial deployment with U.S. and Allied forces in 2003.

This recent wave from 7 has reached the 300% equivalent seen in wave 1.I think it's correction mode for now

Nice opportunity...JMHO, of course... ;)
Buying opportunity after a two day sell-off. USMC "My old outfit"wants thousands of Cougars and Buffaloes in the field by year-end. I assume the Brits will be ramping up their Mastif version of the Cougar too.
A new buy rec out Wednesday.
C-Span Wednesday, major appropriation personnel there indicated some 4000 plus addition units needed this year. That doesn't include hummer replacement vehicles, service contracts, buffaloes, etc. all.

The listing on the Nasdaq.
Get ready for institutional buying. ;D ;)

I saw this stock a while ago but was to afraid to jump In then (congrats btw to all those that made a killing on this stock). Now that I see where its trading at now I am even more hesistant because the PPS has been so high, It reminds me of a TASR a little. Until I see a viable long term business plan other then focusing on making just anti mine vehicles, I will shy away. I dont think we will be in Iraq much longer, 3 years we should be fully packed up and out of iraq. Interesting enough talking about defense stocks, Cramer was recommending AVAV as a new IPO coming out next week. They have been doing very well with the drone aircraft that they make. Seeing that drone aircraft and land drone vehicles are the way to go in the future military, it has some nice long term potential.

ScottishTrader

FRPT is an incredible growth story, and I think that it has a lot more to go. Having done some reading, I think the long term story is that the military is realising that the current Iraq conflict has set the tone for the nature of future conflicts and they need to be prepared for insurgent operations, regardless of how long they stay in Iraq.

In the short term, there are major multibillion $ vehicles contracts that they have bid for and should be announced in the near term. If they get a significant portion of the MRAP contract it will have a big impact on the share price. The main concerns/risks are whether they can scale production to meet the requirements of such a contract, but their recent agreement with General Dynamics should allow them to do so.

FRPT is very hot right now, and as setravis said, their entry onto the NASDAQ should bring in insitutional investors. It is possible that the last couple days action was a concerted effort to allow some early accumulation. I'm very late to the party on this one, but am happy to give FRPT some leeway. I see a potential 50% return from these levels, and the chart is still looking very bullish. $18 is a clear support zone, so I think I will hang on for now unless it closes below there, or the chart starts to roll over. It closed friday right on $21.50 resistance and next resistance above that looks to be at $23, lets see what next week brings.

TerryG

Well it cleared one hurdle, the NASDAQ listing. The next two hurdles of the 4Q 2006 report and the MRAP contract announcement.

About the MRAP. Is there a competitor? Or are we waiting for them to close the competition and declare FRPT the contract winner? Since this is a competitive contract bidding process.

I once owned this stock at 40 cents. :o That was before a 10-1 reverse split. ;) A lot of people say a reverse split is always bad but FRPT was obviously an exception to the rule!

I once owned this one too before the 1:12 reverse split, bought @ 0.2740 cents & back then still trading at the symbol FRCP.ob, I sold it @ the symbol FRPT.ob at $3.00 just after the reverse split.... I played FRPT again a year ago, I caught it the beginning of the upside rally at $1.00 but failed to hold it, not so happy with my profit after seeing the stock now @ $20.00 :( :(

Edit:
My record says I bought FRCP.ob @ 0.2270 not 0.2740 so I actually made a profit there. ;)
---- The 0.27400 was my first buy of FRCP.ob & sold it at 0.24200 so that was a loss for me. :(

10-1 is a forward split, right? I think FRPT.ob did a 1-12 reverse split. ;)

I checked my FRCP.ob past trading record & yes they did a 1:12 reverse split.
because I bought 31,500 shares of FRCP.ob before the RS & sold 2,625 shares after the reverse split....

Math:
Reverse split ----> 1 divided by 12 multiply to 31,500 = 2,625 shares

TerryG

Well apparently the secret to FRPT's success is that along the way the Pentagon has bought every vehicle FRPT.OB could make until now.

Just a matter of, is it true with the MRAP contract which will run through 2007 and 2008? It will decide the continuation from here.

ScottishTrader

MRAP contracts should run through 2008, and as this article points out, it is pretty much a shoe-in for FRPT in two of the vehicle classes:

http://www.nationaldefensemagazine.org/issues/2007/Febuary/Militaryservices.htm

The question still remains as to whether they will also secure the class 1 part of the contract (for light vehicles, i.e. the cheetah), but by my guestimates, then second two classes of the contract should be worth almost $2B easily:

2570 Cougars @ ~ $690k each = $1.773B (previous order for 100 cougars cost $69M)
74 Buffalos @ $1.25M each = $92.5M (previous order for 44 Buffalos and 100 Cougars was $125M - $69M for the Cougars = $56M for 44 buffalos => ~$1.25M each).

The class 1 contract is for about 1400 vehicles which will probably run at least a (conservative) $560M - say $400k each.

Whilke their partnerships with GD and BAE suggest that FRPT won't get all of this pot, it does appear that they are very well positioned here, and with a current $1B market cap, a $2B+ order to be filled over the next 2 years would give the share price a serious lift. Not to mention they are getting oreders from other countries, including the UK.

It is clear that they have made the right contacts within the military and that the military sees the value of their vehicles. I think we are looking at the next standard in armored troop transports, and when this contract is announced, FRPTs stock will explode once again. There's no way I'm selling on this recent weakness.

17:55 FRPT The Defense Department picks multiple winners for Marine combat vehicle - DJ (20.14 -0.65)

The Defense Department on Friday picked a big slate of companies to build new combat vehicles for the U.S. Marine Corps and other military services. The Marines lead the procurement effort, worth up to $1 bln in 2007 for up to 4,100 vehicles and related equipment. Service officials said they wanted multiple companies involved in the project, to avoid problems with production capacity limits. Friday's announcement covers $35 mln in awards for up to 36 test vehicles, under an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract. Each winner will initially build two vehicles for the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected, or MRAP, vehicle program. The program seeks about 1,500 "class I" vehicles and about 2,600 larger "class II" vehicles. The winners include General Dynamics (GD), Force Protection (FRPT), Armor Holdings (AH), Textron (TXT), BAE Systems (BAESY), Oshkosh Truck (OSK), Protected Vehicles, International Military and Government, and General Purpose Vehicles.

Marines On Cusp Of Launching Big Buy Of Combat Vehicles
Vrijdag 26 Januari 2007 20:39

<![CDATA[By Rebecca Christie Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The U.S. Marines are poised to pick contractors for a new generation of armored combat vehicles, kicking off billions of dollars in coming Pentagon purchases.

Contract announcements for the Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected (MRAP) vehicles could come as soon as Friday. The Marines are working with the Army and the Navy on the program, which aims to get about 4,100 new vehicles to troops by the end of this year.

'I expect to be on contract with a large number before the end of this month,' said Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Michael Brogan, head of Marine Corps Systems Command, in Jan. 16 congressional testimony.

About $1 billion in 2007 funding is laid in for vehicles and related equipment. Over time, the program could lead to more big contracts and also give participants an edge in the Defense Department's upcoming search for a Humvee replacement.

Contractors are lining up for the project, which is almost certain to include multiple vendors.

General Dynamics Corp. (GD) has two entries, one by itself and one in partnership with Force Protection Inc. (FRPT). BAE Systems PLC (BAESY) is another contender. Other companies working on armored combat vehicles include Oshkosh Truck Corp. (OSK) and Textron Inc.'s (TXT) Textron Systems unit.

By picking multiple contractors, the Marines hope to avoid capacity problems that have plagued the Pentagon during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. For example, Armor Holdings Inc. (AH) and its partner AM General LLC had trouble keeping up with demand for up-armored Humvees.

Likewise, Force Protection drew criticism for its difficulty filling orders for its armored vehicles, which include the Buffalo minesweeper and the Cougar troop transport. Brogan said Force Protection has done a good job of overcoming its growing pains, but the Marines need more options.

'Our strategy will be to procure two vehicles from each vendor,' Brogan said. Each vehicle will be tested for its ability to resist blasts and handle combat maneuvers. Production contracts could follow by fall.

Lawmakers have supported Pentagon requests for earmarks and budget reprogramming to pay for these vehicles. Interest remains high, as shown in two House Armed Services Committee subcommittee hearings last week.
Initial plans call for the Marines to buy about 1,022 of the new vehicles. The Army seeks an initial buy of 2,500, and the Navy also has signed on. The Army is eyeing additional vehicles as part of a 'phase two' procurement.

'We will have to go onto maybe two, three, maybe four vendors depending on the types of systems,' said Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Sorenson, in a Jan. 18 congressional hearing. 'Ramping that production line up will probably be the next challenge.'

Analysts estimate the wheeled vehicle market could be worth $10 billion in coming years. The Army-led Humvee replacement program, known as the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle program, will take shape over the next 12 months.
That program will be a separate purchase, although it probably will incorporate technology from the mine-resistant vehicle program, said Marine Corps spokesman Capt. Jeff Landis.

Many of the same companies are likely to compete, along with other contenders like Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT), Armor Holdings Inc. and AM General, which has formed a joint venture with General Dynamics to compete for that project.

Man, FRPT Executives are darn rich now! ;)

"Although there was not a large volume order to FRPT -- as many investors have been expecting -- the MRAP vehicle contract is now in place, and we expect FRPT to be a primary beneficiary of this program," Donaghey wrote on Monday. Thus, "we would be aggressive buyers of the stock on any weakness associated with this announcement."

Force Protection's own CEO, Gordon McGilton, seems far less confident.

Indeed, McGilton has wasted no time cashing out his own stock in the company. Last year, as Force Protection's new leader, McGilton scored 1 million stock options with a strike price of just 72 cents a share. Then last week -- less than a month after those options vested -- McGilton sold his 1 million shares at prices ranging from $19.68 to $20.32. He pocketed nearly $20 million worth of profit in the process.

In recent months, Force Protection Chairman Frank Kavanaugh has been dumping huge chunks of company stock as well.
