Good morning!

Even though I sold NVAX and HEB Friday morning, I am still fascinated by Novavax.

I did a chart analysis (I still believe NVAX and other Avian plays are not "trendable" and therefore "speculative" but here's my stab at it  ;)) this morning, and with RSI flat at 60, NVAX is certainly not "overbought."  If 10 MA maintains its gain above 50 MA accompanied by matching volume activity and MACD goes up to positive territory, NVAX may follow the early September "trend" and move up again.

However, because NVAX is "highly" influenced by the current frenzy Avian Bush/Contract/news coverage, whether NVAX will rebound and move up/down or remain sideways will depend on what happens to the market opinon of the Avian stocks next week.

Next week, CEO will announce two new products and update on new management's continuing "transition" - normally this is great news, but in midst the Avian Bush/HHS/NIH contract chaos and confusion, anticipated stock gain activity in response may not be realized.

Good news is that Institution/Money Managers continue to accumulate with almost little or no selling.  NVAX, I believe, continues to be a long term play that has not been played out yet.

I will be watching NVAX very close again at market open on Monday.  With a huge gain SANM experienced on Friday, there may be profit taking.  If I sell SANM, I may buy back NVAX, or I may split my position 50/50.

Thanks for all the supportive emails!  As many of you requested, I'll post how I find and monitor my 20-40 stocks and set my swing trade entry/exit targets in the following posts.

Those that want to view my chart analysis of SANM, here's the link: (scroll to bottom)

Hi all,
New to 3StocksOn Fire. Big thanks to LiveLife - your posts are very helpfull.

Last week, I've been in and out Nvax with small profit. Now, I'm in at $4 and I believe that long term it is a winner but short term you can easly swing trade.

Recently, NVAX has been added to the option trading on AMEX. How important is it to the short/long term trading?

Welcome to 3SOF gielda2003,

In my opinion, NVAX should be a good long term play.

But, I am a short-term swing trader who "maximizes gains" by selling on short-term profits and buying back on pullback/dip and selling again on short-term gains (typically 1-3 days or so).

If you are new to stock trading, I DO NOT recommend that you option nor margin trade.

Until you are very "experienced" (I am still a newbie since July of this year) and absolutely know what you are doing, I recommend that you only trade with your "cash" account for now.  The upside potential of option/margin trading is there, but that is not what I recommend.

I do not margin/option trade.  When there is an opportunity (spiking gains on market open) I will daytrade before I go to work and place my limit sell orders.

Good trading, and once again, welcome to 3SOF community of "retail" traders!

Thank you for the welcome. It's a great MB :)
Yes I'm quite new (July 2003) and willing to learn. lol
I don't intend to play the option market but just being able to trade option, imo, will have a positive impact on the pps.

vic666, here you go.  I do not believe SVA is "oversold" or "overbought" with RSI below 70, but 10 MA dropping to 50 MA with decreasing volume and MACD in the negative territory do not look good for SVA.

Once SVA does "bottom" it should rebound, but I would recommend that you watch carefully for "true" bottom and rebound.

Hi LL,

Wow, how did you manage to learn all these indicators so quickly?  Can you recommend some good learning websites?

Thanks.

Well...for those who don't know how the current avian flu (H5N1) could become a human to human catastrophe. It works like this. Currently the avian flu can pass from poultry to human from only close contact. The problem is that if a person who has the normal 'winter flu' becomes infected with the H5N1 strain, then there is a great possibility that both strains will exchange some genes. The fear is that the H5N1 strain will acquire the winter flu gene that will allow it to become contagious. The odds of infection seems slim since only about 150 people were infected from the 1.5 million infected chickens. However, it only takes one person.

Thanks rurouni,  :D

What I did in the month of July was, I read as many 3SOF MBs I could and focused on TA/chart trend posts (3SOF > Message Board (column on left) > Knowledge Center (scroll down) > Technical Analysis).

I also did a google search for "stock trading technical analysis" and began checking all the web pages.

Ok, as I posted earlier, for my 20-40 stock list, I use 3SOF David Randolph's stock list (current and past closed trades stocks) and top 10-30 stocks from MSN highest intraday/week/month volume gainer (MSN link below) and pull 3mos, 6mos, and 1yr TA charts (see above TA commentary charts for NVAX and SVA) and narrow down to 10-20 "first choice" and 10-20 "second choice" to make my 20-40 stocks list.

I then select 1-3 stocks that are most active gainers and I swing trade with them.  Once the gain cycle has turned to loss, I move onto the next stock on my 20-40 stock list.  And so on, and so on.

I use the following links on a regular basis:

One stop for stock technical analysis - just type in your stock symbol and boom, there you have all the TAs.
http://www.stockta.com/

I use barchart to get "composite indicators" table for "quick glance TA"

Lycos I-watch monitors Institutional/Money Manager buy/sell requests/executions.
http://thomson.finance.lycos.com/lycos/iwatch/cgi-bin/iw_ticker?t=NVAX&range=7&mgp=0&x=20&y=5&i=3&hdate=

I use MSN "power searches" for screen highest intraday volume gainer, week/month volume gainer and Institutional ownership gain for the month lists, this is where I pull my next 20-40 stock list stocks from.
http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/finder/deluxestockscreen.aspx?query=Intraday+High-Volume+Gainers&btnQryFrm=Go

MSN stock rating summary gives you a "quick glance" on risk/return.
http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/srs/srsmain.asp?Symbol=nvax

I use StockCharts to draw my commentary TA charts

I'll post more info on swing trading technique I use, probably tonight/tomorrow morning.

Good trading!

Hi LL,

Wow!!  and I mean WOW.  Thanks for all your great info. and I am looking forward to learn about swing trading.  Your infos are very helpful to beginners like me.

I do have other basic questions such as exit signals.  Out of respect for the other members I had opened a question on the TA MB here http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=3471.0 as not to further flood the NVAX MB with educational questions.

Please help anyone if you can.

Thanks in advance.

 ;)xlive....

I'm hidin' in the weeds, watching...got some great links from you and others on the yahoo board. That place is a zoo once the PM starts...hard to keep a thought train going.

This looks like a great site and I'll be feeling my way around it awhile before I throw my 2 cents in...you know, "eyes, ears open...mouth shut"

NVAX is wound tighter  than a cheap watch, IMO a close above the $4.30 secondary price and we're off to the races...hope so, the tension's getting to everybody. If it breaks over $4.15 I guess I'll know where to find you...
